Huh? The question was how likely it is to have a president with German ancestry, given how many have that in the US. To point out that the current president has Kenyan ancestry, which he has, given how few people in the US has Kenyan ancestry, is a pretty natural thing to say, to my ears.

yeah, the implication or joke was that Obama was not born in the USA. I've never seen anyone use born for ancestry. For instance, one of my G-Grandmother was born in Poland and arrived into the US- I'd say Polish born American raised.
