I don't really see why that is relevant? Irrespective of how repressive the Russian government is, the Sun is known for its sensationalism and distortion of facts and it does seem to be twisting the story here slightly. What regulating websites in this context means I am not sure but banning emo and goth fashion from schools and government buildings is hardly the same as outlawing emo and goth altogether. Most schools in the UK have a uniform which means that students couldn't wear emo and goth to school here either; does that make it illegal?

I really don't care that much if Russia wants to stick with their normal authoritarian ways, it's no skin off my teeth.  This was more of a bash on emos than it was on Russia anyway.  Yes, The Sun sucks as do school uniforms and Nanny Statism in general.

It's funny, because I thought you were older than me, but I guess I must have been mistaken. As to defending 'the Motherland' (my family is actually Ukrainian, but that is besides the point) you'll note that my original post did make clear that I thought the Russian government was repressive.

Incidentally, this story is eight months old, do we have an update on whether this passed or not? A quick google news search yields no further information on this story, nor does a scan of a few news outlets' websites.

No, but when I try to gauge the reliability of a source, I like to check first what they say about a subject with which I'm very well acquainted. If (as in this case) their information is absolute rubbish, then I know that I should take their news with a grain of salt (or in the case of the Sun, several truckloads of salt).
