I support free trade and this tariff/tax is in opposition to that so I'll be supporting this.

But don't you realize that you're puting Atlasian companies at a disadvantage if they have to pay carbon taxes but foreign companies don't?

That's isn't fair.

Why would you want to put Atlasians at a disadvantage?

I'd even talk about lowering/eliminating the carbon tax....but this seems stupid.

I like free trade as much as the next person in most cases, but there needs to be some equality in taxation.

I am well known to be an anti-free trade advocate, therefore I plan to vote againest this measure.

The point of this law is not protectionism for the sake of stifling competition or giving our industry a leg-up and it does not seek to be anti-free trade or anti-free markets; instead, it aims to make sure that our environmental laws, passed to protect our environment and the Earth's, actually do something. If a company wants to sell its good in Atlasia, it should have to abide by the same environmental regulations and taxes that our own companies abide by. Otherwise, we will quickly see 1) the destruction and bankruptcy of our own industry and 2) our environmental protection laws become wholly useless.

And that's why I am strongly opposed to this bill.

Agreed. As such we should eliminate the carbon tax for Atlasian businesses.

Well, if you want to introduce a bill doing that, that's fine, I guess. I'll oppose it strongly, of course. But this repeal would just needlessly hurt Atlasian companies so that the anti-carbon tax folks can make a point.

SPC has already introduced a bill for that.

I move for cloture. This bill isn't needed if the carbon tax is repealed, and if the carbon tax is not repealed, this bill hurts Atlasian businesses and makes our laws useless.

Perhaps such a situation would pressure the Senate into repealing the carbon tax for domestic businesses as well.

A vote is called on cloture of this Act.
