For the longest time, I would refuse to go there whenever my family suggested making it one of our vacation stops. I actually would like visit Boston now though.

That being said, it's still horrible. I have some family in Boston and they confirm just how horrible politics can be up there.

It is, by a fairly wide margin, my least favorite state.

The only state that voted for McGovern in '72 is alright in my book.

I voted "freedom commonwealth," too, but Hillary Clinton's primary victory was a bit disturbing.

Obama didn't do all that well there in the general, either. It appears Massachusetts has a significant amount of racists.

The remnants of the Louise Day Hicks generation made their last stand in 2008.

Well did Obama overperform or Kerry underperform? That's the question.

The only thing that really bothers me about the state is that it's the only state besides Arkansas where Hillary won the 18-29 demographic. WTF?

I presume you meant, "did Obama underperform or did Kerry overperform?" but it might be better to compare Obama 2008 to Gore 2000

Also how did Hillary do better among 18-29s than 30-44s? (who were tied)

I've never been there.  I'd like to visit Boston some day.  Overall, I'd say freedom commonwealth.

I voted for Hillary in the Mass. primary, and so did a lot of people I work with who I am quite certain weren't motivated by racism. For most of them, it was a vote for Hillary, not a vote against Obama.

There are many factors at work here, but the most commonly overlooked one is that Catholics seemed to be drawn to Hillary in primaries all over the country, and Catholics are well-represented in Mass. Democratic politics. The other most important factor, which was discussed here last year, was that Obama's campaign of hope, inclusion, and changing history was similar to Deval Patrick's in '06. The two are very, very different politicians, and Obama has been much more successful, but it meant that themes that were new to voters elsewhere were on repeat here.

I'm surprised you actually know who that is considering how obscure of a political figure she was. I only know her because I read a book about Boston politics a while back.

best state in the union
freedom commmonwealth

We have half of the Seven Sisters colleges in Massachusetts, including her alma mater.
