http://www.gallup.com/poll/117361/Support-Gun-Control-Laws-Time-Lows.aspx
http://www.politico.com/blogs/glennthrush/0409/Poll_Support_for_gun_control_hits_all_time_low.html

The heavy coverage of mass shootings in Binghamton, N.Y., North Carolina and Washington state and the cop killings in Pittsburgh has had little apparent effect on the nation's appetite for new gun laws.

A Gallup Poll out this morning shows support for a ban on private hand gun ownership at an all time low, with 29 percent of respondents saying they support such a law. It's the smallest percentage since Gallup started asking this question 50 years ago. Interestingly, gun control advocacy hit its all time high in 1959, according to this poll. It's important to note that the poll was taken before the massacre in Binghamton, but other mass shootings have been in the news for a few weeks.

The poll may show why virtually nobody in Congress is rolling out new gun control legislation. Indeed, when I served on a panel earlier this year with Rep. Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.), he said there didn't seem to be any appetite for new gun control laws, even with a Democratic president and an expanded liberal majority in Congress.

Why do you feel the need to lie about the poll itself?  The poll asked about BANNING handguns, that support is at its lowest level in 50 years, NOT Gun Control.

1.  I copy and pasted the headline from Politico and offered no analysis in my original post.  Maybe you should contact the author, Martin Kady II?

2.  I think it's pretty clear what he means by gun control from reading the post.

3.  Also, look at the link and/or the title for Gallup's poll ("Before Recent Shootings, Gun-Control Support Was Fading"), Kady's not the only person to frame the "gun control" question in this way.

4.  And banning handguns is a form of gun control.

5. Chill out.

Fine with me.  I wonder what the Obama haters will say: they say he wants to ban all guns, but that he is also only motivated by the polls.  This must be tough for them.

Uh yeah I was wondering the same thing. Not supporting banning guns doesn't mean people don't support "gun control" in general.

Gallup didn't force you to phrase it that way here.

It's a typical way of using the terminology (evidenced by both the poll and the MSM).  And I haven't used it that way here outside of direct quotations.

Americans support a lot of stupid things. Americans elected that Bush idiot twice. Americans used to think that black people were 2/5 of a human-being. Just because 70% of the country is made up of paranoid gun nuts and fools easily won over by these nuts, doesn't mean that GUNS ARE GOOD or something.

People who support complete handgun bans have their hearts in the right place, but it's just not a feasible solution.  I'm a gun control advocate and would have answered "no" in this poll, and I'm hardly the only one who thinks like that.

Do you realize how ridiculous that sounds; 70% of people are "gun nuts"?

Especially since only about 40% of the population are even gun owners.

Who cares? Gun control is basically a non-issue as far as I'm concerned anyway. Let the mountain dwellers and the toothless bumpkins have their precious guns and then let us pray that they just shut up.

WalterMitty is going to be pretty upset about this though.

Data (be it ersatz of not, and it is not fatally flawed on its face in any event) that an armed society is indeed a more polite society that have come out in the past 15 years or so ala John Lott have basically killed off the gun control movement. About 20% of the population changed their mind over time on the issue due to this kind of thing (including myself to some extent), and that switch was decisive.

...and still, I don't own a gun.  There are millions of Americans who are as pro-gun as I am that don't own guns.  How can a "paranoid gun nut" not own a gun?

NRA has succeed in his crusade against life and has also succeed to indoctrinate Americans, thanks to the party of Lincoln, the Militia Party.
