Yeah, I use Audacity all the time. Not the most advanced audio editor out there, but it gets the job done.

Adobe Audition is a very good audio editing program - you can download it as a torrent if you like, though of course that is illegal and I officially discourage you from doing that.

Version 3.0 is the latest.
