These questions are for those of you whose Christian traditions observe both The Great Vigil of Easter on Saturday night and Easter Sunday services the next morning:

1.   Did you attend both?  This year, or have you in previous years?

2.   Do you have a preference?

3.   Did you experience something of a letdown in the Easter Sunday morning service?  I did, this year.  It could be completely unrelated.  I know Christ is risen and I rejoice in that.  But I was so emotionally invested in the Vigil and I found the lighting of the church and the first post-Lenten Alleluias so joyous, that this morning's service sort of fell flat.

Anyone care to relate similar or different experiences?

I have never been to the vigil and I'll probably never go. I'm sorry but it's just far too long. I can't believe how many people go to it and they aren't even in RCIA.

Today's mass was nice. Here's a first though: We have a student priest from Africa at our parish. I have him every once in awhile for mass and he's fine. Today he wasn't the main celebrant so he got to read the gospel except...he didn't read it, he sang it. Now I'm pretty sure he has sang the Eucharistic prayer before (which just made it horrificly long) and, for whatever reason, that didn't seem too weird but singing the gospel? I kind of felt bad because you could hear people asking out loud why he was singing. I'm sure that really confused the "Christmas and Easter crowd!"

And you're a fucking asshole. How about you try actually contributing something to a debate at some point, or are you too busy kissing Rick Santorum's ass?

I'm not Catholic, but my girlfriend is. We went to Easter Vigil last night. It was much longer than I expected, but not excrutiatingly so. It did seem to me like they dragged out matters much longer than necessary. I liked having candles, though. Smiley

OMG Easter Vigil sucks so much, my parents made me go because we had to go see family Sunday morning but it basically destroyed the first half of my Saturday night
