I took that to mean Deep South in the 50s, not Deep South now.

Terrible choice, but I'll have to go with the Deep South as at least I wouldn't be surrounded by people speaking French.

Based on? Most of the serious unrest didn't happen until the early '60s if that's what you're getting at.

Quebec in the '50's was ruled by what was, basically, a clerical-fascist regime.

I know that the Catholic Church provided a lot but it seems more informal than say, Southern Segregation or Apartheid from what I understand. It would be bad for me either way.

At least in Quebec they weren't lynching the non-Catholics.

The Deep South.  I'd live somewhere like Charleston, or Atlanta.  At least I'd still be in the US, and with people who speak English.

The Deep South. It would suck, but at least I'm white.

Ugh. I had no idea about that.

Well I still vote Quebec. The South in the 50's wouldn't like a brown, agnostic, leftist.

I love how BRTD assumes I don't know anything on the topic just because I come to a decision he disagrees with.

Even if you didn't, did you ever claim to be an expert on Quebec or anything? If you didn't, I don't see why it would really matter much.

It's not so much I disagreeing (I didn't even vote considering how horrid both choices are), it was simply your original post and this that gave me the impression you believed Quebec was similar to what it is today.

Option 1 would have been close to an unendurable hell for me; I can't imagine not splitting at 18, and not going back over the River Styx for years.  Meanwhile I find Quebec to be cool (Quebec City is one of my favorite cities in North America), and hopefully if I "chilled" there as it were, my French would be about 10 times better than it currently is.

That is not a close call for me.

Well. It's not like Bill 101 existed in the 50's anyway, but I speak French regardless. And it's close to Ontario!
