Sam and I have known each other for a long time, and he is very good internet friend of mine, so I can't be objective. But irrespective of that, Sam combines a very high IQ and logical mind, with expertise in a lot of fields (politics, law, economics, history, sociology and I am sure I have missed something), which he shares with us. There is no one on this forum from whom I have learned more, and few who match him in that department.

Now Sam buddy, stop calling folks "f****ts" damn it!  That is just so downmarket for an up and coming lawyer destined to be a partner someday in  some silk stocking law firm in Manhattan.

Your passion is art and music eh Sam?  I didn't know that, and haven't seen you post about that. Due to my older brother, one of my hobbies is modern classical music, which most people hate. What kind of art and music, and do you listen, or play, or compose or paint, or photograph, etc?

I know you use the "f****t" term just to create some buzz. It is still naughty though - very naughty.

It is "white shoe," not "silk stocking," but I went creative because the upper east side was once known as the silk stocking district, and I wanted to show off of course.

And there you have it!  You know, a case can be made that it isn't the 1930's anymore, and indeed, not even the 1950's or 1970's. Some might argue that it is 2009.

Rumor has it that the last true blue socialists left on the planet are some aging nuns in Brazil, but I have not verified that for certain.

And then there are those who just enjoy typing out the word, for its aesthetic or euphonious qualities, or whatever.

Surely you agree with me on this one don't you Opebo. You know you do. Just let it all hang out. Just do it. You will feel just so good if you do - maybe even as good as I'm feeling these days . Trust me.

What are you on, Torie?  I'd really like to know.  That said I feel pretty damn good the last 2 days back in the good place (and I'm just 'on' Thai food and anal sex).

But do keep in mind that all has been downhill since the 1930s intellectually, downhill from the working-class political aspect since the 1950s, and in most other ways since the 70s.

Just remember, Torie- if it's white, it ain't right. Marijuana is the perfect drug for those who want to feel good, as it comes without most of the risks associated with "hard" substances, including alcohol.
