Oh boy! George Romney.
An American hero. One of the greatest Americans in the 1900's, just like his son is one of the greatest Americans in the 2000's.

Romney had to pretend he was moderate, or the liberals of Taxachuestts wouldn't have voted for him. They may not be identical politcally, but they are both Romney's, and that is what is important.

Yes George Romney was a Liberal Republican. However considering that Reagan wasn't "really" in the race there was no conservative candidate anyway so thats beside the point. The race would have been more about Vietnam and general competence. Nixon being Nixon I wouldn't have voted for him. Rockefeller would have struck me as too arrogant and elitist. Stassen was long past his time by that point. Of the choices Romney strikes me as the best option.

Nixon

I would have been tempted to go with Reagan but he was only Governor for a year and a half at the time.

Oh, so you mean you approve of lying about one's political beliefs soley to gain political power? That's good character.

Nelson Rockefeller, of course.

Reagan.

Should we have simply named Nelson Rockefeller "Supreme Emperor of the Republican Party"?  Tongue

Certainly, that's true. Is going back on one promise such as that the same as serving for several years in a political office, and in your own words, lying about his political views?

I could vote for Rockefeller or Romney if I'd been carted to the polls hogtied in a wheelchair and fed LSD intravenously. Otherwise, Stassen gets my (protest) vote.

Nixon is (still) the dark heart being at the center of American politics, and maybe my one vote would be the tip of a stake fixing to plunge into it and liberate the damned souls from its sick center.
