The Facebook and Conservative website comments are amazing.  Our own activists want to give away Snowe, Collins, McCain, Alexander, Gov. Schwarzenegger, to the Dems.

This is insanity.

Alexander who? Lamar?
Why? What has he done to be considered RINO?

Because he doesn't fit the Jim Bunning/Bil Sali model of "victorious" GOP leaders.

At least now we will have a pro-choice Dem representing PA.

MSNBC says Specter will have a news conference in about a half an hour.

Democrats are like an ugly girl who needs a prom date: They'll take anyone.

On a scale of 1 to 10, how stupid should htmldon feel right now for backing Specter over Toomey in 2004?  I say... about a 47.  Kerry & Specter for working families!

Anyone else looking forward to the Toomey general election ad that points out that four years ago, Arlen Specter begged George W. Bush to come save his bacon in the primary and now he's pretending to be a Democrat?

I'll give Phil this: I'm not sure if the Republican party left Arlen...it probably did, that's probably still not really Arlen's motivation for leaving, aside from 200,000 or so people like me who left the primary electorate.

LOL Moose - whats hilarious is that Rush Limbaugh just took credit on the radio for those party-switchers, claiming that they were a part of "Operation Chaos".

Some people care more about…say, real health care reform than ideological purity for every single politician in their party

We're more than happy to take Snowe and Collins. Tongue

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

As for EFCA, Specter will most certainly have to vote for it now or he will face a primary challenger who will most certainly be AFL-CIO backed.

Actually, it is quite rational, if misguided, when you consider the reason why.

It is really an internal civil war between the GOP establishment and its own voters.

The GOP base (I'm damned tired of that word) wants to ensure that the establishment will never "force" them into supporting another compromising, socially liberal John McCain type again. Or be "tricked" into embracing a big-spending, talk-right-but-govern-left establishment Republican like G W Bush and Schwarzenegger. They are pre-emptively eliminating threats before they can reach the level of Republican standard-bearers.

Well this ugly girl is about to walk all up and down the face of your party. Let me know which one you would prefer once we pass healthcare, cap-and-trade, EFCA, etc.

Specter needs to evade being primaried as a Dem by switching to Indy, then winning a three-cornered contest.

No other outcome to this mess could be satisfactory. Tongue

I guess he switches back on card check after all. What a card!

I wonder why he is so desperate to stay in the Senate, that he is willing to endure this kind of self humiliation.  Is it really worth it Arlen?

Honestly, this is one of the best things to have happened to the Republican party this year, strangely enough.  There may finally be a bottom soon enough, if not now.

My thoughts, as well. Once the Republicans have been relieved of their last lever of power, they will no longer bear any responsibility at all for any policy outcome from Washington. The Republicans know well that an obstructionist minority is a big rallying point for the majority base.

certainly wouldn't seem impossible that he loses a Democratic primary, especially since I believe he is still against EFCA and still old and sick and etc.
