I watched Maury one time.  A girl who had previously been on the show with her bf brought 5 guys for paternity tests over her kid.  None were the father.  She said she'd be back the next week with 3 more men.

There's no right answer here.  They're both tremendously exploitative and repugnant.

I'm sure you're going for the idea here that Jerry Springer readily admits what it is: a love letter to the lowest common denominator.  The fact that Springer acts as an eye-winking ringmaster (instead of acting as a fraudulent agent of healing and compassion) doesn't mitigate any of the shows' sins.
