Suppose it depends on exactly what Obama winds up doing.....but it's unlikely that it will scare me.

The current state of health care in this country scares me. So I'm willing to take my chances.

The current state of health care in this country troubles me. But I would prefer to move in the right direction, rather than the wrong one, and accordingly voted yes.

I'm wondering this myself.

Sure. The unknown can be scary. I am not following the ins and outs to know the likely end game.  But going down the road to attenuating competition in the end will not lead to happiness and satisfaction I suspect.

I'm scared that it might not have a robust public option and will instead just be a health insurance company subsidy plan.

So in other words what will actually happen?

It's a money drainer for sure, and in all likelihood health care will take a big hit.

No, it just disappoints me a little. He's disappointed me on a number fronts lately. The environment, military tribunals, etc.

I don't know exactly what he'll do, but some things make me uneasy (so, obviously, I voted yes). First, if he is going to fine companies who don't provide insurance to their employees, than there are bound to be some who would be better off financially to cut all health care benefits and pay the fine, thus providing more of a financial burden on the government. Second, if this costs billions of dollars a year (which it most certainly will) than the government will be motivated to cut costs and either make you go to cheaper and probably less effective doctors and hospitals, or simply encourage doctors and hospitals to cut costs. That will ultimately lower the quality of health services. Finally, the government may decide once you reach a certain age you're not worth taking care of any more because you'll die soon anyway.

I am aware of the flaws of anecdotal evidence, but I have some anyway. When my grandfather was 72 years old, he was diagnosed with colon cancer. He had to have surgery for treatment. Now in a private health industry like we have now, they will perform it no matter the cost or odds he'll live if it is the best option and if he is willing to pay. He also happened to be in excellent shape for his age; his doctor told him he had the body of a man 20 years younger. So it made sense to perform the procedure. He lived 17 years more. Under a public plan, he would not be worth the cost (in the government's eyes), and they wouldn't consider his good physical condition. They would put him on a waiting list, and he may have died. I know Obama's plan isn't single payer, but it still worries me.

If you didn't notice I made this thread just to mock a blue avatar who literally did say he was scared about it.

I use to think George W. Bush was going to change things for that better.

He, too, disappointed me on some things, but I pretended not to mind so much. Then, it continued. I never had a problem with Iraq. The idea of liberation was a good thought to me. I even voted for him in 2004, since his disappointments were not that numerous as of yet and Kerry wanted to pull the troops. It wasn't until the last full year of office that I would have put him in my bottom ten presidents.

I hope Obama doesn't do that to you. It sucked, when Bush did it to me.

<crickets>

I've heard something about *pretend* cost figures too, but I just naturally presumed that the proposed number would need to be multiplied about 3-5 times to get somewhere close to the real number.
