It will be held June 27, 2009 to replace John Tory, who was a failure and a disgrace as a leader.

Here are the candidates:

*Tim Hudak - no name MPP from Niagara West-Glanbrook who seems to be the frontrunner for some reason.
*Christine Elliott - wife of federal Finance Minister Jim Flaherty, and MPP from Whitby-Oshawa.
*Frank Klees - veteran MPP from Newmarket-Aurora. Former cabinet minister
*Randy Hillier - longshot nutcase, MPP who almost lost in the last election in a safe Conservative seat (Lanark-Frontenac-Lennox and Addington). Would be your typical Republican in the U.S.

The PC's seem to have a case of the Aaron Schock syndrome.

Also, Hudak isn't exactly a Democrat either. He attended a "Canadians for Bush" rally in 2003 to support the Iraq war, and this is the blurb on the front page of his web site, www.timhudakforleader.com

A great U.S. President once said,
"Government's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it" (Ronald Wilson Reagan).
True words spoken by a conservative who saw what was happening in the state of his country as government would act recklessly to the millions and millions of taxpayers that would be suffering under the Carter administration.
But what is happening to our Ontario?
Taxes raised on diamond mines in Northern Ontario more than five times while the unemployment rate is at 10.5%1 and even higher for our Abroginal peoples?
Bail-outs for auto companies who needs long-term restructuring, not quick-fixes?
357 unnecessary regulations added onto our province despite promises to lower them?
Ronald Reagan believed in not only advancing the principles of his party to his country, but improving it for the better through the use of corporate tax cuts to increase prosperity and wealth, workfare and learnfare programs to help find employment for the needy and working man alike and changing government from a bureaucracy that directed to a bureaucracy that followed and listened to the needs of the people.
That is the kind of government we want.
And Tim Hudak is just the perfect candidate to deliver on.
Join us today. Help us start a revolution, a revolution of economic freedom, long-term prosperity and success.
Our province deserves so much better.

Sign up today and join the Progressive Conservative Party of Ontario as every single vote will contribute towards the possible election of Tim Hudak as our next party's leader!

John Tory ought to come back. I miss his French language skills.

Oh dear. I think Klees is the more moderate of the four. Hudak scares me from what little I know about him.

Bump - this was this weekend. Results are % of a weighted result where each riding gets an equal number of points regardless of how many party members are in the riding, in the successive rounds.

Hudak (general right-leaning conservative) 33.9/40.0/54.7
Klees (more religious conservative) 29.9/31.9/45.3
Elliot (socially liberal flat-taxer) 26.4/28.1
Hillier (crazy angry rural man) 9.8/eliminated

Klees is a religious? Interesting, I hadn't known that.

Anyways, even though Hudak was the favourite, to people outside of the PC Party, he is also the least known of the four candidates, which is why I am so surprised.

Klees was basically the originator of the recent disastrous fashion for faith-based school funding, because of his evangelical connections. He was endorsed in the campaign by Charles McVety and the rest of the "family" crew.
