I hope this poll will make BushOklahoma quiet. Tongue

Fallin has a very nice lead over Askins and this matchup has to be the favorite at this point.

Fallin ran statewide twice before, winning elections to be LT. Gov.(separate election from Gov.) first under Frank Keating in 1998 and then her second term under Brad Henry before running for the House in 2006, so her high name ID is not that surprising nor is her strong support vs the Dems. Either way the GOP is in a win win whether they nominate her or Watts both are well known and popular(Watts less so for being off the radar since 2002). However it is early and things can change drastically for now though Lean to Mod GOP Gain.

I still think its early, and I still think Askins has a chance.  Besides, what do I care, I'll probably be in Kansas by then, where the GOP is guaranteed of winning the Governors Mansion.  Cheesy

Askins should probably try to tie Watts to Obama.

Ha, I wish.  That won't work since Watts is a Republican.

Watts isn't running by the way.

He would be a compelling replacement for either Tom Coburn or Jim Inhofe should they retire, at least much better then Tom Cole but I doubted he would take on Fallin in a primary a battle he might well lose and considering how long he has been off the stage such a defeat would end any further political ambitions on his part.

That wouldn't make that much difference.  Oklahoma has largely moved past the racial tensions of the 50s and 60s.  I mean, JC Watts gave up the 4th Congressional Seat of Oklahoma on his own free will, he wasn't forced out or defeated for re-election.  The seat was his as long as he wanted it.  I know thats not state wide, but it does [currently] encompass a lot of the southern parts of the Oklahoma City Metro, like south Midwest City & Choctaw down through Moore, Norman and into southern Oklahoma.  Now, of course, back then, there were 6 seats in Oklahoma, so the boundaries might have been drawn just a little differently, but probably not too much.
