http://www.cnn.com/2009/CRIME/05/21/kentucky.soldier.iraq.murder/index.html

What a ing bastard:
Green was convicted earlier this month of murder, rape, conspiracy and obstruction of justice in connection with a 2006 incident near Yusufiya, about 20 miles south of Baghdad. Jurors decided he was guilty of raping a 14-year-old girl, then killing her and setting her body on fire to destroy evidence. He was also convicted of killing the girl's parents and 6-year-old sister.

how can anyone defend this sh*t?  His lawyer deserve to be put in jail with him.

Clearly human trash, but I oppose the death penalty, so this was the right decision.

He clearly deserved the death penalty.  This is beyond horrible.

The death penalty is pointless.

Not really. I does become a deterrent if used more regularly.

I find that very hard to believe. I'd have to find conclusive data to be proven right, but the assumption that murder dwindles because of a particular consequence is somewhat threadbare.

No, most people who would be eligible for the death penalty probably don't sit there and think about the consequences.  They just do it.

The next logical step is that, hell, if criminals aren't going to think about the consequences then just abolish prisons. I mean, they're going to do it anyway.

Prisons aren't just useful for deterrent purposes (in fact, I'm not sure they are deterrents); they're for punishment, restitution, and rehabilitation.  Not to mention to keep criminals from committing more crimes by keeping them off the streets.

Exactly. Get you off the streets in hopes that you will be a better wo/man when you get out. Who in the world doesnt do something heinous enough to get you long jail time becaue they fear the cell? No one.

An illogical argument. Let's suppose we take the next logical step from your argument and institute the death penalty for lower crimes. Let's then assume advocating death for some individuals is a capital offence. Now you're on death row.

Was that a stupid sequence of events to take? Of course it was, and that was the point.

This man is absolutely disgusting and deserves to be imprisoned for life. He'll never know the outside world again and will waste away the rest of his life in a small facility. He shouldn't even be released to coexist with other prisoners. Ironically, this is both cheaper and more of a punishment than the death penalty.

The death penalty is pointless.

Hardly. The point is to eliminate human trash, like the subject of this article.

Did you read what he said in order to defend his client?  That's pathetic!

I didn't see this.

"Eliminating human trash" is too emotionally loaded, don't you think?

I don't want the state, or anyone else, for that matter, to decide retributive murder is appropriate. It's one of the most hypocritical things I could imagine, as far as the legal system is concerned.

I'm with BRTD.  But I would not be averse to imprisoning this scum in jail for the rest of his natural life...with no access to television or recreation...and with some sort of boring, tedious but semi-productive job to do.
