Republican California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger is socially liberal and is married to a member of one of America's most prominent Democratic families.

Will Schwarzenegger become the next high profile Republican defector to the Democrats, following the lead of turncoat Specter?

Please discuss.

I don't think so. I would be very surprised if he did.

The Specter move was purely because he was going to lose the primary to Toomey. Awnuld has no primary to win, and unless he runs for the senate, will retire at the end of 2010. What would be the point of him switching parties now?

He is a Republican? If there ever was a true definition of a RINO, it would be Arnold.

He contemplated going Indie some months ago. But didn't. If he leaves the Republicans, he wouldn't become a Democrat.

Even if he ran for the senate, he would be in a stronger position doing so as a Republican.    While he would have an advantage for the GOP nomination, a primary fight against Boxer (among Democrats only) would put him at a sizable disadvantage.

Assuming that his anecdote for why he is a Republican is true, it would be extremely unlikely for him to ever leave the party, especially since he has not made overtones towards doing so already.

I bet he will never seek public office again after his term as governor ends.

Arnold's popularity rating is (again) slightly below that of the swine flu (though still higher than that of Gray Davis). No one's calling him and asking him to switch parties.

I don't think Arnold would ever join the 'girly men.'

No one was calling Specter and asking him to switch parties.

No one with taste, anyways.
