Let's say Ayers did write the books.. Obama had a ghost-writer and it was a "washed up terrorist" (words of your choice for President). Obama's ambitions clouded his judgement, he falsely gained attention and acclaim for his books, and he was then propelled towards the Presidency. Because of Bill Ayers.

So what?

Does it make a difference right now? The only reason I see that Republicans find this so fascinating (usually the same crowd that thinks Obama is a Muslim) is because they want to discredit his character. As a tactic to win back control of the Federal government. But in 2012 (Hell, 2010) no one is going to give a sh**t even if it's true. They'll judge the current administration based on its performance, not on who wrote his book. This is conspiracy theory nonsense that you WANT to be true because it will make you feel justified in attacking the president's character. What if instead you actually attacked the president based on his performance while in office?

I will freely admit both sides engaged in this sort of stupidity (points in Fahrenheit 9/11 come to mind), but that doesn't make it right. It's silly to obsess over this trivia because all you will ever have is circumstantial and coincidental talking points. Nothing substantial. And even if it's true, it's such a pathetic scandal - not that it won't get plenty of air time.

Explain to me why it's relevant in a time of endless war and potential financial destitution to investigate whether or not a throwaway book by the current President was ghost-written by Ayers. Give me one direct concrete implication that affects anything even remotely relevant to the current state of affairs. Please.

First of all, that doesn't really answer my question. Secondly, of course Obama is a liar. He became President of the United States!

I am no expert in literature analysis, but I'm pretty sure that, if these folks are, they're hiding it pretty damn well in the thick of their bias.
