Safety in transportation is one of the few issues where I believe government intervention is helpful. And really, are your civil liberties aren't being harmed for all practical purposes (I realize that in theory they are, but come on)?

In other words, there is not practical reason to oppose this, only a philosophical reason because, honestly, forcing people to wear seat belts isn't going to lead to official government surveillance or anything like that.

Yes, of course. What do you want the freedom to do, fly out the windshield?

It's none of anyone's business if I want to fly out my windshield.

The only true freedom you'll ever know is mid-flight.

Even if you require medical treatment that you can't pay for?

No, I made it so nobody can see the results until the poll closes. If you check the thread in two days, you'll be able to see it.

Lean yes. I think it's a silly law, and personally I wouldn't vote for it, but to pretend that not wearing your seat belt is some incredibly important civil liberty is just ridiculous.

It has a little more weight to it than you're admitting, since you can get fined for choosing not to wear one. Not big in the grand scheme, but still big enough to take seriously.

Yes, but you shouldn't be able to be pulled over only for that reason, and if the passengers aren't they should be ticketed, not the driver (unless they are minors and the driver is an adult.)

No.  Show me the cost of treating uninsured victims whose injuries could've been mitigated by wearing a seat belt, and I'll let you know if it justifies the $70 fine I'll have to pay for not wearing one.  And last I heard, they've raised the fine to $120.  No, the government doesn't deserve that much money from me when I forget to buckle my seat belt.

And "no" to helmet laws as well.
