Voting begins "within 12 hours after midnight Central time on Friday morning". I am posting this now because I doubt I'll be able to at the constitutionally-mandated opening time. Don't vote early. The booth closes "at 11:59pm Central time on the following Sunday night."

Please indicate your choice by placing an X in the desired box.

I'm watching intently to see how this exciting regional election turns out!

Stay tuned.

Congratulations on your win. It will be a pleasure to work with you and your no-bullsh**t attitude, which you share with me, I suppose.

Why the Atlasian left-wing sometimes sucks:

1. Verily
2. Al
3. EarlAW
4. ilikeverin
5. bullmoose88
6. Lewis Trondheim
7. Xahar
8. Jas
9. Igg
10. afleitch
11. Marokai Blue
12. Franzl
13. Fritz

[snip]

Hard to run parties and marshal ideologies when the right-wing is ruthlessly organized and recruits from NationStates and American Idol forums, and the left-wing is hopelessly contrarian and votes for stuffed animals.

Angry
I strongly approve of the LNF's policy of running zombie candidates - it contrasts nicely with the preference of others in having zombie voters.

I'd also note that were it really possible, Igg would probably be a preferable member of the Senate to many of the incumbents.

Finally, though I stand apart from afleitch on a number of political issues, he is IMO unquestionably one of the best Senators there is. He is reasonable, competent and affable. He cares about the game, he produces substantial legislation, he doesn't have a party machine to back him and he pisses off the right people.

You should mollify yourself knowing that you ranked as the best of the rest. Smiley

Hello there everyone, I suppose I should bump this thread in anticipation of next month's election and give some background into my current thinking and to reinforce my decision to run, as well as speak to my friends from other parties and my opponents.

In recent days, the last week really, I've called my decision to run for re-election into question. Atlasia is so hectic, so consumed in chaos and personal rivalries, unstable by certain bad apples and unfortunate events since the last Presidential Election, that I wasn't really sure if I was willing to put myself in the spotlight for four more months, if I was lucky enough to have you all re-elect me.

I spoke to Bgwah about these concerns, and close friends like Franzl, and I wrestled with my decision. I announced my intent to run before alot more hell broke loose, so I wasn't sure if I should continue on. But in doing so, I received a great deal of support from them. Bgwah told me he thought I was a great Senator, and would be difficult to replace. Franzl told me I brought something "unique" to the Senate, and it wouldn't be the same. I'm flattered of course, though I don't really think that highly of myself, I do try to bring my passion and my dedication to the job.

In my time in the Senate, I've proposed and fought for a great deal of progressive legislation. I've pushed for financial assistance to needy families struggling with energy bills. I've fought for a reasonable and fair minimum wage that increases with inflation for maximum effect. I've defended the public health by supporting a smoking ban in public places. I've pushed through a robust economic stimulus package that has jump-started the economy to getting back on track. I've fought credit card companies by introducing legislation that caps interest rates and went on to ban payday loan lending.

Later, I was given the responsibility of being PPT of the Senate. It certain does require some work. Tongue But I've stayed with the responsibilities of the job and kept the Senate running at all times, learning all the way. I've been a very fair PPT, not using my powers one way or another unjustly. I've been one of the most active Senators. I keep the lights on after hours, ranting and raving even if no one's there to listen. I'm proud of that. Wink

And I want to continue that. I will run again to further my legacy of activity, of dedication, of comprehensive and frequent legislative goals.

I ask all of Atlasia to judge my on my accomplishments, my work ethic, my loyalty to my job. All of my results, all my experience, it speaks for itself. Re-elect this fiery progressive, and I'll continue to deliver what I've always delivered. I will continue to stand for what I believe in, even when the wind is strongly against me, and I will continue to try and reach to my fellow leftists regardless of party. We must all work together for our common economic interests, DA, LNF, JCP, and beyond. We can all be allies in this fight.

Let's make it happen.

In all seriousness, it depends what you're proposing and how. Even a 'whacko' like me has no problem with regional smoking bans, for instance. Or perhaps an overhaul of the derivatives industry.

Actaully I pushed DWTL to run against me. Then I went temporarily insane and blew him out of the race with a bang in public. At first I was being sarcastic but then the insanity set in.

Since you didn't respond to my PM what is your opinion of this part of the the my financial overhaul?

Yes, apologies for not being a PMing sort. Sad

I did actually read that though and have some thoughts I never got around to posting. First of all, just as a random idea, I'd prefer a permanent strengthening of the amount the FDIC insures. Anyway, about your ideas, they look fine to me of course, but I'd prefer the SoIA not be involved in the process, with no offense to the current SoIA of course.

When we created the Secretary of Internal Affairs, it was more of a "trial run" than anything else, with several members having some concerns about the position being redundant, so I'm not sure it'd be wise to entrust something like that in that position given the possibility of it being removed in the future. It should probably be left up to the President, or some fictional non-playable position that the President would be the de-facto player/decider of.

Other than that I have no serious complaints as of now. (Aside from not being a fan of encouraging merging.)

As I said, its incomplete. There should be guidlines established so that few companies would ever get put into conservatorship. Its not my intent that every failed bank got put into this program just the most critical ones.

I will be adding a section for the FDIC but I want to keep it protecting tradtional bank deposits nothing more.

I will also add sections dealing with CDS's and leveraging.

I might be willing to add a consumer protection agency similar to the one being discussed as the focal point of the Obama's proposals. But I am at a loss as to how to construct that part.

I could make it so its the President's responsibility primarily and he can delegate the authority to the SoIA. The President will still be involved in the process no matter what.

I'd like to take this time to direct you all to a lengthy post explaining my progressive record as one of Atlasia's at-large Senators.

I'd also like to take a moment and just let everyone know something. I wasn't sure if I should tell you all or not, but as it could impact my campaign for Senator, you deserve to know. I have privately expressed interest to Lief in the position on the Supreme Court. I don't know if I'll be picked, there are plenty of other prime candidates for the position, but the Supreme Court is always a body I've respected, yet wanted to improve, and yet, I love the Senate as well.

If I'm taken to that position though, I will not be abandoning progressives, I will still remain, and still support my preferred candidates in all my usual fiery style. And if I am not chosen, I will fight to the death to win my re-election and continue my progressive record in the Senate, a body I feel at home in, maintaining my fierce attitude for the legislation I think will be the best for Atlasia.

Regardless, thank you all for listening.

Though we disagree on many issues, I must say that I liked most of the bills you listed in your link. Honestly, we need people like you to keep debate alive. I arrived in Atlasia shortly before you became a Senator, and I was annoyed by the Senate just "compromising" on everything. Most votes weren't close at all, but your election for the Senate changed that for the better (though we could use more people with your "style"). You are also a competent PPT.

So, I can't really endorse you because of the discrepancy between our economic views, but I can say that I would be glad to see you stay in the Senate.
