I'm not really used to this laptop, but it shouldn't my activity to any noticeable degree.

It already affect your activity, you forgot to put a verb in your sentences.

Your sentence isn't much better.

It was a poor attempt to cool the atmosphere during the waiting before the end of the vote.

Very poor attempt, I must concede.

Congrats Marokai!

According to my own count which takes in account the invalidation of invalid votes, you will be a Senator in a few days!

I want to be part of the cool crowd and bump my thread for re-election! Tongue

When I took office, there was very little debate in much of the Senate. Almost none of the threads got more than a couple pages, and most votes weren't that contentious or hard-fought. I promised that when I took office, I would follow through on what I said, to bring activity in writing, amending, and drafting legislation, speak an unheard voice of the Atlasian left in the Senate, and of course, my biggest promise, to bring fiery and passionate debate to a body that had become far too friendly.

As I like to think I always do in my work, I followed through on such promises. I am now very active in debating legislation along with what I think is the best Senate so far in my time in Atlasia. Pieces of legislation now have page after page of debate in them, and I always give, sometimes longwinded, rationales for every bill I introduce.

More than that, though, I introduce important legislation. Relevant legislation. Legislation that seriously addresses the issues, and I follow through with fighting for it.

  • School Lunch Act (Initially introduced as School Salad Bar Establishment Act)Sad Legislation that mandates middle-schools and high-schools with over 450 students be fitted with full-service salad bars, not only to improve the lives of the children, educate on more healthy choice alternatives, but also to create jobs in every school district for constructing, maintaining, and continuously stocking the salad bars. The bill also creates/improves a subsidized school lunch program for needy children.
  • Fair Interest Rates Act: This act capped credit card interest rates, to prevent companies from overcharging their customers, especially in such times as these, and banned payday loans, a despicable and deceptive practice that would draw needy people into a simple cash loan and then trap them in a spiral of extreme interest and debt.
  • Amendment to the LGBT Trade Act: This bill amended a great piece of legislation introduced by the amazing & astounding Senator Afleitch. The act strikes down all trade agreements with countries that criminalize homosexual acts. It encourages human rights, and brings an element of social justice into our policy making that I believe is crucial and has been sorely lacking.
  • Intelligent Voting Amendment: This constitutional amendment, I believe, is my best achievement. This bill restricts registration eligibility requirements to prevent, to some degree, newbie users being used as vote-slaves for certain political parties, and makes sure that potential voters must have familiarized themselves with the forum at large for a certain period of time. It also increases office-holding requirements.
  • Absentee Voting Act: Written by Peter, this bill restricts absentee voting to what it should be, a last resort measure used by those who won't be able to vote in the actual election. He deserves a great deal of credit, and I was happy to introduce it for him in the Senate.

I had one failure, the Fair Media Ownership Act, which would have tightened restrictions on media ownership, and provided a degree of fairness and allowed for greater competition in the media markets. But overall, I regard my time in office as highly successful.

My current bill on the floor is the so called "Stimulus Package" which promotes economic recovery in the most studied of ways, strengthens the safety-net, and provides protection to all Atlasians.

I of course, remain very active in debate, and have taken it upon myself to argue very strongly in favor of certain acts, chiefly among them being the health care bill now on the floor introduced by my JCP colleague Fritz. I hope this passes swiftly.

As you can see, I delivered on all my promises, and I continue to do so. I deal with important issues, I debate fiercely, and have played a crucial role in bringing the overall debate in the Senate to new highs. I delivered in my promise, though, of balancing the Senate, and bringing the, at the time, unrepresented voice of the Atlasian left to our legislative body.

As I said during the special election, sometimes people are qualified for office, and sometimes they aren't. Sometimes they deliver on promises, and sometimes they don't. I am, and I do. No reason not to re-elect me. Wink

Whether or not people endorse you is irrelevant, you certainly have the votes to be re-elected for as long as your heart desires.  Sort of the interesting part of this system of voting, hell, if the RPP or JCP wanted to we could nominate Stark and Gporter and have them win

Almost from the inception of the RPP, DWTL has been an outspoken proponent of the at-large elections of half of the Senate. If he hated it, he could do like me & refuse to run for any of the at-large seats.

This is why the DA is so necessary. It adds some real excitement to these elections. Rather than the same old RPP vs. JCP battle for the 5th seat, you have a guaranteed JCP, a guaranteed RPP, and three up-for-grab seats. With the variation in DA membership, those last three seats are in major flux and give the game a good bit of excitement.

The JCP can nominate him first. Tongue

Also, I would like to mention that the School Lunch Act did not do much of anything, upon the realization that pretty much the same bill had been passed by the United States Senate (unless I am thinking of an altogether different bill).

What exactly are you referring to? I don't recall a bill passing in the US congress that mandated most schools have salad bars.

Maybe I'm mistaken as to the exact bill, though I do recall that there was a bill that passed late last Senate that was later realized to be redundant on account of nearly the same bill having been grandfathered in from the U.S. legal code.
