I think it's deplorable that the government of NYC refused to let him legally carry a firearm, but I'll get to that in a minute.
Here's another problem which encourages more crime. The attacker wasn't even charged with the appropriate count because the District Attorney didn't want to risk a trial, because he was afraid his conviction rate would down.
Now this is absolutely regrettable. There are honest people who are being victimized and that isn't a good enough reason to allow NYC residents access to their Second Amendment rights. Hell, the only way to get a concealed carry permit in NYC, you have to be either rich and famous, or on the city council. A real "government for the people" they got going on out there, isn't it?
