I mean, everyone banking on Paterson with such things is assuming that Paterson's numbers have bottomed out and will rise to some vaguely acceptable level.

Cuomo has a bad experience with challenging a previous establishment black candidate in a primary, so Rangel's remarks are especially cutting.

I'm surprised it took them that long to play the race card actually.

Didn't Rangel support Hillary over Obama? What's he talking about?

Spitzer's numbers are literally better than Paterson's.  God, Spitzer vs. Giuliani would be hilariously appropriate for New York.  But Cuomo will run and easily win both primary and general.  I also think Maloney has an excellent chance of beating Gillibrand in a primary.  And let me be the first to hint at this: Caroline Kennedy lives in Maloney's district - the East Side, Midtown and Queens.  If she's still interested, winning there would be a hell of a lot easier for her than statewide (though not as easy as being appointed).

A kennedy winning the famous "Silk Stocking" district. I can't think of a more appropriate district for her, then one with a bunch of famous rich white liberals.

Wait until New Yorkers learn this about Lazio. They will just fall in love with him now. Smiley

Lazio is a crappy candidate.  But to be frank, I could run a campaign and beat Paterson in 2010.  And I doubt any of that changes.

The question is who will be the real Dem candidate because there's no way they let Paterson be the guy.

Giuliani, Lazio, Suozzi, or Cuomo...hmmm...maybe they can settle it over a game of bocce?  Tongue

Why's that?  I only vaguely remember him from his Senate campaign.

That's why you don't recall why he's a crappy candidate...  Wink

He ran a pretty poor campaign and to top it off he would be stomped in his own backyard.

More than anything, his behavior during the debate with Hillary Clinton, says Wikipedia:

"A decisive moment that led to the collapse of his campaign came during a September 13, 2000 debate where he left his podium, walked over to Clinton with a piece of paper that he called the "New York Freedom From Soft Money Pledge" and demanded she sign it. Clinton refused.[1] Debate viewers were turned off by Lazio's aggressive demeanor towards Clinton[2] – and as a result, Clinton's support among women voters solidified.[1]"
