This is a great day for me.  I called it in January, despite the polls.  Life is good Smiley

Whassup with Wise County deep in the heart of the SW going for McCaulliffe? Deep Clinton affinity from old time coal-mining culture Democrats?

I seriously cannot figure out the Wise County thing. It can't be the Clinton connection, since Deeds blew McAuliffe out of the water in the rest of the 9th district. Best I can figure is the extremely low turnout in extreme SWVA (2% in Wise, specifically) caused some funky results.

Indeed, extremely low turnout + they were probably outside of the media markets, so these could just be people voting who have almost no idea who these three people are.

This is just remarkable.  I'm a little in shock at the results; even though I predicted the victory, I would have never guessed the scope of it.  50% in Fairfax, 47% in Arlington, 55% in Moran's home county of Alexandria; and 50% statewide.  It's an excellent sign of things to come, and Deeds will win in November.

fwiw, Wise also gave 64 percent to Harris Miller over Jim Webb in 2006.

Creigh Deeds will be the next Governor of Virginia, and I'm very much looking forward to an urban-rural alliance vs suburbs Virginia map in the general. Grin

There's one no one would have predicted on election day, let alone two months ago

Hell, two months ago someone would have looked at that map and assumed Terry was red.

I would have never guessed that would be the final map.  It's really amazing what Deeds pulled off.

In January, he was a distant third at 11%.  He ended up winning 50% of the vote, and winning all but 9 counties in Virginia.  How is that not a remarkable achievement?

So blacks did actually turn out. Too bad Terry didn't actually win them by that dominating of a margin.

i was being a bit hyperbolic.   i do seem to recall he was named after some confederate soldier.

A Democrat that may be worthy of supporting?
