After graduating college, I'm considering going into the Air Force as a Weather Officer.  I'd kinda like to do something in the military, and this would allow me to actually use my degree.

I haven't decided on this for sure yet, but we'll see what happens in the next couple of years.

First Reaganfan, now you. Next thing you know we'll have the "Dave Leip's 538th Fighter Squadron".

Officer?  You're already halfway to pilot, DO IT!  Do you know how much airline pilots make a year?  YOWZA!  Weather is cool too I guess...but most Weather dudes in the USAF are at Offutt (where I work) which many people don't like (because I work there).

Yeah, about $38,500 nowadays, deadman, thanks to unionbusting and deregulation.

Inks I honestly thought you were like 45 years old.

Which makes perfect sense considering the AF and Navy can't keep veteran pilots even though they make three times that in the military.

Until Inks starts posting videos of him singing John Cougar Mellencamp songs and pictures of him fishing I won't believe it.

Well, sure, lots of people make a high salary for a few years at the end of their career - that's why companies always try to get rid of them as quickly as possible and replace them with new cheap ones:

American Airlines: 1st yr F/O: $31,080 and 10th yr Captain $123,420

Delta Airlines: 1st yr F/O: $50,400 and 10th yr Captain $204,636

UPS: 1st yr F/O: $26,004 and 10th yr Captain $200,508

Southwest: 1st yr F/O: $42,960 and 10th yr Captain $159,000

ATA: 1st yr F/O: $36,000 and 10th yr Captain $136,632

Airborne Express: 1st yr F/O $28,536 and 10th yr Captain $146,184

In any case the trend is definitely down, down, down for salaries of anyone working for an airline.

So, when are you joining the armed forces?

When I know I will be called on to defend America and not limp wristed France or Canada who are uncapable of fighting their own battles.

Did you hear about the French gold medal in the last olympics?  The mens team won the 50 meter rifle drop.  HAHAHAHAHA

France is still an ally, and will be there when we need help.  So let's take it easy on the criticism.

Although, I will say, Don Cherry had a pretty funny quote during the NHL finals.  He was talking about the D-Day celebrations complaining that Canada didn't get a fly-over and said this: "France got a flyover.  They didn't even do any fighting!"

Nonono, he just can't be open about it, or look at guys in askance, or whatever it is that gives the Pentagon reason to research his private life.  As long as he suppresses it, it's all good.

Can we avoid ruining these threads about members joining the military by calling Coburn gay?  Even if they're not going to the front lines, it's kind of a big decision.

With all due respect to one of my more favorite posters, France has not been there for us yet.  They did not support the liberation of Iraq, they did not support the liberation of afghanistan, they did not support us in vietnam (probably because they were embarrased we had to bail them out) , they did not support us in korea and they COLLABORATED with Hitler in WW 2 after surrendering in a couple weeks.  LAME.

England austrailia and Isreal are our only real allies in the world. even Canada went pussy on us lately.  Sad because you used to be able to count on them
