The site shouldn't change to suit my needs.

It should change to suit the needs of America.

America sees Republicans as RED and Democrats as BLUE.

For the last 20 years maybe.  Then again the average american is likely to be pretty ignorant about what those political colors have generally been accepted to mean.

For not even 10 years has this been the color scheme. The red state / blue state nomenclature was used by Tim Russert during the lead up to the 2000 Presidential election. Had the 2000 election been over on election night, I suspect that networks would have gone back to whatever color scheme suited them for 2004. However, the election night dragged on for 41 days and the colors and the phrase had a chance to sink into the American lexicon. Books written about the election picked up the color scheme as well, so people think it's been around as a standard a lot longer than it has.

From what I've heard, a former (Bill) Clinton staffer claims to have started the Democrat-Blue, Republican-Red scheme in America.  He says that it started after he sent projection maps to the media outlets with Dem-leaning states in blue since blue is considered more "American".

It's probably BS, but I'll bet somebody here knows the answer...Yo, Soulty!

Tongue

For NBC the choice of red = R, blue = D was part of a formula widely used by the three traditional networks. The formula alternated the color of the incumbent party and was the prescription for 2000, and would have been the same mapping for 2004 based on the party switch in 2000. However, observers generally credit Russert's use of the 2000 color scheme with a permanent use of those colors in the media.

First KeystonePhil and now you, the french canadian, think(s) I am obsessed with them.  You're pathetic.  Don't flatter yourself.

Because you are obssesed. I'm not flattered, I just find it weird that somebody would obsess over people living hundreds of kilometres away.

You are very ignorant by the way.  You assume that because I'm a Republican I've gone on anti liberal/anti Obama rants on this site.  Hey loser, if you can find any posts in my history that have done that, I'll personally send you a check for $100.

Oh but you 'don't have the time for that' or you're 'not interested enough in me to take the time for that' or 'you don't need my money.'

Typical excuses for someone who has just been caught in a liberal biased rant against a republican.

Oh and ^^^that^^^ comment doesn't qualify as anti liberal because it's fact.

Oh, please. I have nothing against Republicans, I do have something against ultra-partisan hacks on both sides. And stop assuming I'm some type of ultra-liberal foreign American-hater, because I'm not. Don't act as a victim of unfair attacks by an ultra-liberal foreigner who hates America for a living.

You hate France? Good for you. I really don't care. I'm not going to be offended by some guy in Florida.

You are offended and that's why you keep responding to these posts.  You feel the need to have someone obsessed with you when they definitely aren't.  If anyone if complaining here, it's you.

How sad.

I'm pretty sure he's not offended.  Nor does he really care what you have to say.  Your logic is what's sad.

Ya know I was going to say something about Minnesota and I did but I won't sink as low as you.  You're only defending the guy because he shares your ideology.

Hack.

Not as sad as being represented in the Senate your party by an unfunny comedian with no political experience.

Fine. Then what stands at the junction of I-75 and I-4?

What sits at the corner of Orient Road and US 92?

Name the most famous restaurant in Tampa.

What parade occurs before the Gasparilla parade in Tampa?

What's the interchange of I4 and I275 called?

A grocery store exists in Hyde Park, what's it called?

What bridge got knocked down in the 80's?

YES, I know the colors are blue for Conservatives and Red for Labour/left of center parties in Europe...but this isn't Europe.

I've been pretty surprised when I arrived on here to see that views were enough close of European ones concerning international topics. The color system would suit with that.

The site shouldn't change to suit my needs.

It should change to suit the needs of America.

America sees Republicans as RED and Democrats as BLUE.

For the last 20 years maybe.  Then again the average american is likely to be pretty ignorant about what those political colors have generally been accepted to mean.

Books written about the election picked up the color scheme as well, so people think it's been around as a standard a lot longer than it has.

If that's what really happened, it's funny that the switch occurred during the "stolen" election... Smiley

After that, hmm, East Cost, wouldn't there be a bit of paranoia in here from you?? And well, concerning riots in France, hell, I won't answer here but seems you miss a lot of elements to correctly speak about it...

I could use neon pink for Democrats and dark brown for Republicans

Eh! That's a long time I would love to have neon pink for "Other"! Please! Or clear purple too...

1.  The Confederate Flag.  I can't believe those people got away with putting it there last summer.

2.  92 is Hillsborough Av sooo Hard Rock Casino

3.  I've never really been a fan of Gasparilla.  There's a night parade in Ybor that's all I know...

4.  Malfunction Junction-but since the construction ended there I've never encountered jams until further down on 275.

5.  Grocery store in Hyde Park?  Wow I don't know...there is a public very close to there sorta near bayshore.  Are you talking about that?

-----6.  I missed the famous restaurant question.  This is a biased question.  Depending on who you talk to, it's eiter Bern's Steakhouse or the Columbia.  They are both good to me but we both know Bern's is a lot more expensive.

7.  Sunshine Skyway got hit by a barge in 1980.  It was rebuilt in 1987.  I know it wasn't called Sunshine Skyway then but I gave you an answer.

So there I answered.  I know I can't remember the name of the bridge but relax I've only lived here for 10 years not since 1970.

Yep.  I'm defending Hashemite because I share his ideology.  Hashemite is about half way between me and you ideologically speaking... but it's funny that you lump he and I into one group.  Anyone to the left of you are just libruls.

And go ahead and rip on Minnesota all you want.  We're well aware that we're not exactly the envy of the world... But neither is Florida for that matter.

I just think East Coast Republican has anger issues.  He has a way of lashing out at posters that would be considered by others to be very civil and friendly, calling them hacks.

All that does is reflect poorly on him.

Right.  I have 'anger issues.'

Look, if this were any other forum I'd be dropping the four letter words and would be much more, er, loose...that sounds perverted so let's say unrestrained with words.

While I've been here I've been called a racist, stalker and all around horrible person.  Why?  I told keystonephil to basically shutup and sitdown and stop tearing down others who disagree with him.  The guy is rude to anyone who disagrees with him and I told him off.  Since the guy has spent the last 4 years of his life here, he has a following and that angered others.

THEN I made the mistake of saying (sarcastically) that America is the best nation in the world.  When I actually apologized for my sarcasticness but stuck to my belief, I was called arrogant.  When I excluded Africa from the poll (seriously, who on here lives in Africa), I was called a *wait for it* racist.

Truth be told, the only blatantly outrageous action I did on purpose here was to exclude Canada from my poll.  Boy did that one make me laugh lol...anyways...yeah I get called a racist and HP-which I just found out means Horrible Person.

Lovely.  Now as much as I'd like to rip you a new one, I won't because I'm sure 85% of you are salivating for me to get banned.  I'm going to stay here and continue to assert my beliefs.  Knowing that it bothers others only makes me want to post more and more and more and more...opposition encourages me.

Oh and I put FL on the same level as two other states so your zing is interesting.

Virginia isn't the best.

In fact, no state is the best.

It's a threeway tie between NY, NJ and FL.

Well, I think you're reading too much into things here.  There have been a lot of new people coming on that we're pretty sure are just a product of a former poster that created a lot of drama before being banned.  So all newcomers were greeted with skepticism.

The fact that you started off so early bashing against Phil only confirmed that feeling that you somehow had a prior connection to the forum.

I don't care about your polls or who you exclude.. but your'e not going to enjoy posting here at all if all you can do is build a wall around yourself and react to or attack others in such a caustic manner.
I used to be really angry and I'd lash out all the time at other posters when I disagreed with them because it was all about asserting MY BELIEFS on the internet.  Then I realized that we ahve some really cool people here that have different political beliefs and that perhaps it was worth it to tone down the incessant bitching and get to know some of the people.

I hope you do the same.
