Has there been any progress on the implementation of clause 2 of the maglev legislation? If so, I would hate to halt those projects. I would rather amend the HSR act to avoid overlap with maglev.

This.

Also, completely unrelated but at first glimpse I read "magnetic" as "magic." Tongue

We could try that Grin

As for progress on maglev, we don't know. No on keeps track of the progress of any of these sorts of bills, but the wording suggests 20 years of research then the building of lines and the operation of services which to me is a pretty poor deal.

But since research has already started, why not amend that legislation, repeal the HSR act and have one defined program that we have already made progress on.

In economic times like this, it is cheaper to cancel MagLOev research as we are only a few years into a 20 year programme, in reality we will still be working on contracts rather than actually undertaking fullscale research. I don't want the government funding two competative infrastructure programmes.

That seems acceptable to me.

I'd like to open up a final vote on this but I also want to make sure nobody else is going to introduce an amendment or is in the process of writing something.

Aye

I do hope the research thus far can be in some way related to the current HSR research, just so that money wasn't a waste.
