I haven't been to a legit church camp, but I did go with a church's youth group to a college campus for like 6 days during the summer every year between 6th-12 grades. It was kind of like a camp but not really. I slept through all the talk about Jesus and stuff, but I kind of enjoyed the vulnerable young things at camp. There's something about vulnerable young god fearun girls that makes me happy

I'm just disgusted that they didn't teach your punctuation and capitalization of proper nouns, words at the beginning of a sentence, etc.

No, but I attended VBS for a number of years, and then in middle school I helped out with it.

Yes
I went to a camp last year. Due to problems, I can't go this year, but will be going again next year. It was a very fun camp. I also work at VBS in my church. Just finished up on Wednesday night.

Er no. But it might prove to be an interesting experience for this particular atheist. I just have a curious mind I guess. Smiley

Yes, as well as Vacation Bible School.  Both were entertaining as a kid, especially a week away from the parents.

Yes, believe it or not. It was the summer after eighth grade; me and a couple of buddies went together. You could say we were "forced" to go (their parents were religious; mine were not, but wanted me to have the "experience" of camp). It was run by some evangelical group.

Some highlights: some fat sack of shit came in as a guest speaker, and made numerous jokes about intentionally running over cats (seriously); some kid, a couple of years older than we were, kept talking about how he was going to get a "package" with some weed and/or vodka in it. Needless to say, it never came, and this gangsta was solemnly professing his belief in Christ by the end of the first week; we'd have "Bible discussions" in our cabins before lights out at 9:00 PM, in which the older people made fun of evolution and explained what it meant to speak in "tongues" (lolz)...

The best thing I can say for it is that the location was superb. Some miles east of Portland, on high ground with trees looking down on the Columbia River far below. Really beautiful.

Yes.  As a teen. Sneak off with a girl.  Then "go forward" and repent at the evening church service.

Actually, I have become a big believer in VBS since I've watched our church do it.  The kids love it -- no hellfire -- just lots of love and fun to go around.

No, Catholics don't do this kind of stuff over here, even though I have a lot of family members, and they're all pretty devout. Not one has been to a church camp. The area Protestants are pretty big into that stuff, though.

No to camp, but yes to VBS (one year white Baptist, the other year black Baptist). White camp was much like Mitty's experience, but the pastor did teach me the Hebrew alphabet. The black camp, to put it mildly, convinced me of the 'truth' of atheism.

Yes.  Once.  I went to Bible camp once, but to church camp one other time.

It was at this camp in southern Wisconsin, and it was actually really nice.  I felt a little heathenish though because my grandparents and I got a cabin together and I'd sometimes skip the devotions session to read Harry Potter.

It was a ridiculously conservative thing but the food was amazing.
