I'm surprised no one has posted this sooner, or maybe I'm just posting it too late?

Is there any other Republican left in the state?

There's that Christine O'Donnell chick who ran in 2008 for Joe Biden's seat but was crushed by more than a two-to-one margin. I read somewhere where she was planning to run again in 2010, but I suspect she'll back off now that Castle is apparently running.

There's also State Auditor Tom Wagner who's a Republican.

But hey, at least we'll pick up DE-AL (Delaware's Third Senator, so to speak) in the House now. Tongue

I think what's most interesting about this is that Beau Biden may not run if Castle does.  Who will be the Democratic candidate in that case?

Still rumors but I'm inclined to believe them.  The most interesting part is the thing about Biden.

I'm inclined to be skeptical until someone besides the National Review reports it.  GOP insiders have no reason to do anything except pimp Castle's candidacy -- hell, it could very well deter Biden from entering the race until 2014 when Castle will retire.

Your own link notes:

UPDATE:  Hold it. They are quoting well known dumbass Ron Williams…so?

Haha, I was going to quote that as well but understand that the source is a liberal blog from Delaware and they're going to do everything they can to discredit the story, hoping it's not true.  Wink

Give me an actual, non-dumbass source and I'll believe it.

Also, you guys already have a wingnut running, Christine O'Donnell.

So much for Castle's sure-thing Senate campaign:

not really necessary this far out, Castle would win against anyone but Beau and vice versa, and it'd be roughly a tossup, perhaps slightly favoring Castle should they both square off, but overall the winner would be shaped by their campaigns and perceptions of the national party.

and the national climate I presume?

A bit too early say. I would wager that Castle has an edge due to running state-wide more often but Beau has the name Biden and the natural D edge of the state going for him.

I didn't know this was even being discussed but Castle says he would not switch parties to run for the Senate, claiming he's "not Arlen Specter" - http://politicalwire.com/archives/2009/06/24/castle_will_not_switch_parties.html

Then again, his answer - "I am a Republican...I don't intend to change parties" - was a lot like Specter's answers in the past.

He will in seven years time, when Republicans will be as angry at him as they were at Arlen just before he switched [/daring prediction]

Only chance the GOP has to save the seat, IMHO. (If Castle gets a serious challenge from the right, I've probably met the likely candidates.)

The thread title is misleading and probably should be changed. It was a rumor that probably isn't true.

Considering he was one of the eight Republicans responsible for passing Cap and Tax this evening, perhaps you guys should primary him.

There's also State Auditor Tom Wagner who's a Republican.

How on earth does Delaware elect Democrats for the governorship and all the state row offices except a Republican wins State Auditor??

The exact same thing happened in Ohio in 2006.

Wagner has been the state auditor for about 20 years. He only won by about 7% in 2006. I wouldn't bet on him ever running for another office.
