Since we seem to be having a contest on creating Sanford threads, I'm starting a new one rather than adding this to an existing thread.

The State newspaper has emails purportedly between him and Maria (who has children of her own).

To me, and I suspect no one else on earth, there is something wonderful about listening to country music playing in the cab, air conditioner running, the hum of a huge diesel engine in the back ground, the tranquillity that comes with being in a virtual wilderness of trees and marsh, the day breaking and vibrant pink coming alive in the morning clouds - and getting to build something with each scoop of dirt.

Ugh.

Unnecessary on multiple levels.

Posted excerpts here: https://uselectionatlas.org/FORUM/index.php?topic=97867.msg2047991#msg2047991

I think that thread is the "tasteful omgwtfSanford thread" whereas the one in the gubernatorial forum is the "omg Argentinians are hot omgwtfSanford thread" (not that there's anything wrong with that, but as there are no pictures of 'Maria' at the moment I put the emails in the tasteful one.).

Why did the newspaper sit on these? Were they actually trying to respect the man's privacy and didn't think it was important for the public to know? If so then I'm very impressed with them.

More likely they were waiting until they could get corroboration of their source, which Sanford admitting he was having an affair with an Argentina certainly helped.

Ugh, agreed. I was all over this story when it was a case of the governor acting entitled and dropping out of sight for a week, with rampant lying to staff and the press and looking like he was trying to get away with it, but since he admitted his actions and he and his wife are trying to work things out, I have no stomach for the intimate details of his relationship.

I was extremely impressed with his wife's response. I really do hope they work things out. Also, very nice that he didn't insist that she stand behind him at the podium.

It's funny how "I did it, I was wrong, let me fix it if I can" really does work. I wonder how things would have been different if Bush had tried it on some of his professional acts.
