A special general election in CA-32 occurs today in order to fill the vacancy caused by Hilda Solis' appointment as Secretary of Labor. Judy Chu (D) will thoroughly demolish Betty Chu (R).

Polls close at 8 PM PST.

looks like the libertarian is getting about 5% of the vote. i dont know if that's usual for this district or not. but its a boring race so i thought id bring it up.

Note that the Libertarian is the only Latino surnamed candidate in the race in a district with an approx 60% plus Latino population.

Rep. Judy Chu is going to be tremendous in congress.  She's really smart and a skillful politician and is a progressive leader.  Plus she's scrupulously honest unlike her main opponent State Sen. Gil Cedillo...

Plus, after redistricting, I imagine she'll be my congresswoman as I live in a predominantly Taiwanese immigrant community just outside her district.  After redistricting, she will likely have a majority Asian-American district and a new Latino majority district can be created for an up and coming SGV/Inland Empire latino.

A similar thing occurred in the special election for the 37th a couple years ago, to replace Juanita Millender-McDonald. Turnout was about 19,000 voters and the Green candidate got over 5% after only getting 1% in the first round.

Apparently, these are the final results (all 209 precincts reporting):

The Democrat wins 62 to 33.

I would so love to see both of them forge a unity ticket and run for President.  What awesome bumper stickers they would be!
