A modest proposal for remedying the healthcare crisis.

We all know about the supposed crisis in healthcare, in which many people lack insurance or the means to purchase it.  This is further complicated by the fact that in the lack of preventative care many of these individuals wind up seeking help at hospital emergency rooms.   The cost of this emergency care is often astronomical, and puts a massive strain on both the hospital and the public coffers.  These places yet another strain on the overtaxed populous which is already overburdened in providing for socialistic endevours such as the paving and maintenance of roads, the education of children, the deterrence and combating of both crime and fire, and the inspection of meat.

Certainly this is a major issue which cries out desperately for a rash solution.  An online acquaintance has suggested what I consider to be a brilliant solution.  It is a solution which is market based, ‘green’, carbon neutral, outside the box, humanitarian, and goes well with fava beans and a nice Chianti.

There would of course be some start up cost, constructing abattoirs outside of hospitals and emergency rooms.  However, once constructed the needy could enter and exchange their victuals into funds for whatever use they wish to put them to – be it support for their disadvantaged family or one last bender before shuffling off this mortal coil.
Packers could be gainfully employed at reasonable cost to process the product – the price of which would be market driven.   The finest cuts could be used to satiate the adventurous palates of the nouveau riche.  Lesser stock could be utilized for scrapple to satisfy the masses.   Even the offal could be turned into canine cuisine.  There are doubtless countless markets ready to open for this yet unutilized byproduct of the healthcare system.

I believe this proposal is far too ambitious to be implemented in the United States without it being tried on a smaller scale first, perhaps in Ireland.

Maybe we should export it to poor countries. It'd be more likely to work than Kim Jong Il's plan to breed giant rabbits.
