Reported on MSNBC and CNN just minutes ago. Rest in Peace.

Let's see if a certain poster from Minnesota is totally distasteful about this.

RIP, and that's all I'm going to say, lest I steal BRTD's thunder.

He saw the light earlier than any other US politician involved in Vietnam, I believe.

quote Wiki:
"In early November 1967, McNamara's recommendation to freeze troop levels, stop bombing North Vietnam and for the US to hand over ground fighting to South Vietnam was rejected outright by President Lyndon B. Johnson. McNamara's recommendations amounted to his saying that the strategy of the United States in Vietnam which had been pursued to date had failed."

After seeing the "Fog of War" I started to doubt if indeed he was the evil incarnate, as was presented forty years now. The tapes of his conversations with LBJ show clearly that the escalation wasn't his choice.

RIP. He's not really a FF, but I think he was a overall a good person who had the country's best interests at heart.

Living to a ripe old age of 93 and never be under any sort of threat to ever face charges? Yeah, I agree. If any war criminal is going to have that, I'd rather it'd be Robert McNamara than a truly not nice war criminal.

I am going to eschew typing RIP for this guy. I will never forgive the bastard for what he wrought, ever. I will assume room temperature still loathing the man, as an arrogant lying coward, with the blood of tens of thousands on his hands. If there is a hell, he is in it.

I'll just quote this.

A man in a tough spot who acted how he felt, did his best to reverse it and was doomed to historical damning. Hopefully now he can rest, with his long, turbulent life complete. RIP

My prayers are with those family members and friends who mourn him.  And while I am loathe to toss around terms like "war criminal"...it is very tempting.

McNamara played a major role in the cover up of the USS Liberty. He was a Traitor.

http://whatreallyhappened.com/WRHARTICLES/ussliberty.html

"A former Navy attorney who helped lead the military investigation of the 1967 Israeli attack on the USS Liberty that killed 34 American servicemen says former President Lyndon Johnson and his defense secretary, Robert McNamara, ordered that the inquiry conclude the incident was an accident.

In a signed affidavit released at a Capitol Hill news conference, retired Capt. Ward Boston said Johnson and McNamara told those heading the Navy's inquiry to "conclude that the attack was a case of 'mistaken identity' despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary."

It was "one of the classic all-American cover-ups," said retired Admiral Thomas Moorer, a former Joint Chiefs of Staff chairman who spent a year investigating the attack as part of an independent panel he formed with other former military officials. The panel also included a former US ambassador to Saudi Arabia, James Akins."

I heard about this earlier today.

At least he lived a long life.  May he rest in peace, and my thoughts and prayers are with his friends and family.
