Didn't White people in these blue states differentiate between liberal and black ?
Or was it that Gore as a Southerner had more appeal there and created the White Gap for Kerry ?
If this is the case, Gore did very badly with FL Whites ...

The map pretty much makes sense.

Well keep in mind that some of these can be wrong. In the case of FL if it is accurate well that can be summed up by Ralph Nader. Whites in the state voted basically the same way they did in 2000 (57% for Bush) except for Nader voters who went to Kerry. Bush picked up ground with the Hispanic vote and was able to win the state even though Nader not being a factor in 04 cut his margin of the white vote slightly.

It seems the only states where Bush decreased his % of the white vote (to neutralize the Nader affect) were NM, DC, HI, VT, MT, ID, SD, all very small states and/or have low white pop.
Also, Tenn. and Va. are really surprising.

Considering the margin in VA itself wasn't much different between 2000 and 2004 I would say its likely an example of the 1 in 20 polls that basically blow up right there.
