Option 2. If I get more then five or so hours I feel like sh*t for the whole rest of the day. If I roll over and go back to sleep I will wake up again feeling terrible. Once my eyes pop open I'm done for the night, even if it's only four hours.

I picked 6 to 8 because that's my ideal.  But it's usually 5 to 7.  I need to hook up my C Pap machine again.

I generally try to sleep at least 6 hours (or more).  I just joined a gym, and am focusing on muscle-building, and they recommended at least 6 hours of sleep, in addition to plenty of protein and carbo in my diet, so that's what I am trying to do.

Everyone is different. For anyone to suggest some sort of standard for hours of sleep is bunk, IMHO.

I couldn't agree more.  For me, it just happens that eight is my ideal.  Seven is fine.  Nine is good.  But less than seven, I feel tired.  More than nine, and I get a headache.

Yet I have worked with people who have done really well on four or five hours.

What I have never understood are short naps.  My parents always took a 45 minute to one hour nap on Sundays...and that made sense.  I had a roommate in college who actually took five and ten minute naps.  At first, I thought he was just resting his eyes and calling it a nap.  But  he could fall asleep almost at will and even snored.  To me, that would just be like a lap dance.  A cheap tease with no payoff!  LOL  Give me at least 45 minutes or I feel ripped off.

Glad I'm not alone. If I get more then six hours I'll feel groggy all day long and have a lingering background headache, the worst kind IMHO. I'd rather have a terrible headbanger as opposed to a lingering background headache.  When my wife says "come to bed early tonight" that means for me to get to bed by 1am as opposed to 3am.

I'm the opposite - I usually only get 4 to 6 hours but it leaves me feeling terrible all day.  I would prefer to sleep about 10 or 12 hours but alas I am being subjected to the ignominy of paid employment.

I normally go to bed around midnight. Assuming my parents don't wake me up, I'd go till about 1:00.

I need about 8 hours of sleep which really sucks. I wish I could just sleep 6 hours and wake up refreshed. I at least need 3-4 hours of sleep to function normally the next day but it also means I may sleep up to 10-11 hours the next night if it is possible.

I find that my day is usually best when I get 7 hours.  Unfortunately, I am usually too lazy to get my ass out of bed then and end up sleeping 9 hours.  If I get any less than 6 though, I have trouble functioning for most of the day.
