Well, I had thought it a gaffe, but a quick check of factcheck.org shows that Bush did indeed report buisness income from a small timber buisness enterprise.

It will be nice to see him dig himself out of this one. But it was funny, "Want some Wood? Huh huh". Great line.

LOL. You guys. Evidence that Bush won this thing: this is what's being jumped on. Unreal. Bush must not have done much wrong.

See him dig himself out of this one? I don't think average people are so blinded by partisanship as to see Bush in a hole over this. I'm still chuckling. Bush scored with that comment, 'Need some wood?'

Bush made $84 off timber?

Wow. That really prove--... uhh wait, Kerry said Bush owned a timber company.

His company made $84? What was it selling, a few twigs?

lol some people are so stupid it's legitimately humorous.

LOFL.

This is even more ridiculous than the Kerry sneaking illegal notecards into the debate or Bush having a bulge in his back to communicate directly Karl Rove, John Ashcroft or Halliburton.

Spinning stuff like this means your candidate lost the debate, period.

Ok kids, stop and actually LISTEN.  Kerry was pointing out how ridiculous Bush's claim was that "900,000 small businesses will be hurt by his tax plan".  He was pointing out that the majority of these "900,000 small businesses" are actually individuals who are incorporated and who actually employ NO ONE.  Kerry was pointing out that under the Bush definition the $84 Bush received from owning a portion of a timber company would make him a "small business".

Bush DOES in fact own a portion of a timber company.  So, here's the question to you Republicans.  Is Bush a moron and unaware of his financial holdings?  Or did he blatantly lie to the American people on National TV?

I think 84 bucks demands a congressional investigation. Or maybe I should just cut Kerry a check for 84 bucks to put towards buying more Ketchup stock. Oh yeah, his wife has no interests in Heinz..sure...

Bush clearly needs to be impeached over this grievous lie of incomprehensible magnitude.

Bush had a big old grin on his face, and acted like he busted Kerry on lying. This had better blow up big time in that liar's face. Lying to imply that Kerry is lying. He's going down.

Bush was hilarious with this.  I want to see shirts that say 'BUSH TIMBER CO."  on one side and 'Need Wood?' on the other side.

Uh... not over 84 alleged dollars of wood. What is that anyway, a couple boards? Oh, what a riot. Now that's a lumber company, buddy. Shows how out of touch Kerry is. Angels and Ministers of Grace defend us should Kerry be elected! Smiley

Hey, so the next question becomes what's Cheney's small business? Kerry accused him of having one but didn't elaborate. Heck, Bush only got back $84 on a few boards he sold at his 'lumber company', Cheney had to have done better than that! Maybe he owns a 'paper company' in Georgia or South Carolina and sold a couple reams of paper? Smiley Oh, too much.

Does this mean that you concede the point that most small buisnesses who file taxes as individuals actually are individuals - and most of them as 'companies' make less than 200,000 a year?

And according to the factcheck.org article, Cheney's 'buisness' was his wife's side job doing consulting - another buisness which has no other employees.

Wasn't that the orignial question, whether or not returning the tax rate for individuals making over 200,000 a year to Clinton era levels would have any signifigant effect on small buisnesses.

Kerry's plan for buisnesses is to close several tax loopholes (which are primarily abused by larger multinational companies), while lowering the tax rate for buisnesses in general (thus lowering the costs for most small buisnesses, and slightly evening the playing field against multinational corporations).

I just have to wonder how long it will be before someone drags in the 84 Lumber company into this mess.  It's a ready made set-up for a parody.

I think it was a salient point that John Kerry made.  By Bush or by anyone saying that they are a small business for earning $84 is a) an example of how Republicans skew numbers and b) an example of loop holes that corporations and whily individuals use to get special tax breaks.

However I think that this is a very complex issue and the noise machine can fog up the issue so much to render it completely meaningless.

It's a fight not worth fighting.

Yes, "BUSH/CHENEY TIMBER CO." on the front, and on the back "NEEDLE GEORGE AND NEEDLE DICK"

GO print them up!

Does the 9,000,000 businesses that Kerry will wipe out with taxes on the poor and middle class that make only $200,000 include lemonade stand operators and Ebay sellers too?

Wait a moment, I happen to do consulting, on a small scale but professionally, and even this does generate jobs.  I buy materials for work, which generates jobs for manufacturers and store clerks.  I by persoal goods.
