What about Kasich or Portman if either of them wins their respective 2010 race in Ohio?

Well they are both great.
I think romney's goal will be to win huckabee voters in the same way obama won hillary supporters.
They both can appeal to huckabee's base IMO

I think John Thune would be good. He's someone who would be extremely likeable, once Americans got to know him. I think he was a lobbyist for oil or something, so that could hurt him, but all in all, he'd do a good job at getting the conservative vote, and not creating too much attention.

Of the list, Thune. McDonnel would be a good choice but we have to see whether he wins or not in 2009. Other good choices would Marsha Blackburn, all the benefits of Palin without the ignorance that comes with her; Kay Bailey Hutchinson; and maybe one of the two from ohio if they win.

Of those, Crist, but Hutchison would be a better pick.

Romney/McDonnell has an interesting ring to it.  Thune and Pawlenty get the job done just fine as well.  And, I wouldn't discount Portman should he win his Senate race either.

Obviously Cantor would be a great pick if not for his religion, which should disqualify him under Romney's cautious campaign philosophy.

That would really help Mitt get the evangelical vote he really needs to win...

Is it necessary to have an Evangelical on the ticket for Evangelicals to vote for it?

No, but having a "mainstream Christian" would certainly help.  You know, someone who's  not doomed to go to hell Wink

Charlie Crist. Brings Florida in comfortably and with Michigan as a toss-up. Lookin' good.

Anyway, I hope that the Democrats won't call Republicans racist or sexist if we don't have a member of of the non-white male variety on the ticket.

Critst would be the best V.P. nominee, but I don't think he would accept just two years after geting elected to the Senate

Why not?  Running for VP doesn't take that long.  It's not like you have to go MIA from the senate for two years like you do when you run for prez.

Not Palin.

Not Huckabee.

Crist would be interesting.

Unlike McCain's running mate, who he picked for crass sensationalism, Romney's running mate will actually be qualified for the job, in fact, qualified for the Presidency, in the event that should become necessary.

Richard Nixon won election to the United States Senate in 1950 and was picked by Eisenhower to be his running mate in 1952, going on to win.

No, that would not appeal to me either. Although I am a Huckabee supporter, I still cannot vote for that ticket because (1) the negatives of Romney outweigh the positives of Huckabee, and (2) more importantly, Romney is at the top of the ticket, which automatically makes the ticket bad regardless of the running mate.

Thune. South Dakota borders a shaky R state (Montana) and two states that Republicans might think shaky (Iowa, Minnesota). It's wise to pick someone close ideologically to a nominee because such prevents contradictions within a campaign.

(I don't think that Thune has a chance to sway either Minnesota or Iowa, but if one is GOP one must do much wishful thinking to "hope" away defeat).

Romney/Thune has a much better chance of holding the Dakotas and Montana than does Huckabee/Thune. Those are only 9 electoral votes, but they are essential to a Republican win.
