For Washington state:

In third place, a tie with Wisconsin, New York, and Massachusettes, which have all voted for the same candidate as Washington the past 6 presidential elections.

In second place, with the past 8 elections the same, is Oregon.

And in first place, with 14 elections the same, the last one being different in 1944, is Iowa!

Wisconsin and New York have voted as a bloc since 1972.

I'm from Kansas, and we've voted the same as Nebraska since 1912.  Way back in 1908, we voted for Taft and Nebraska voted for Bryan, but we've been giving our Electoral Votes to the same candidates for nearly 100 years.

Isn't it all four plains states that have been voting as a bloc for ages? I think that's since 1916, or possibly 1920.

Pennsylvania and Connecticut have voted the same way in every election since 1912, when PA voted for Roosevelt and CT for Wilson.

IIRC in 1976, PA voted Democratic, CT Republican.

For Texas

Most

32 (of 37) North Carolina, all except 1848, 1872, 1952, 1956, 1968
31 (of 37) Virginia, all except 1860, 1872, 1876, 1960, 1968, 1976
31 (of 37) Florida, all except 1848, 1872, 1876, 1960, 1968, 1996
20 (of 24) Oklahoma, all except 1920, 1960, 1968, 1976

Fewest

8 (of 37) Vermont, only 1928, 1952, 1956, 1964, 1972, 1980, 1984, 1988.

Most Curious

Minnesota, 13 of 34, which would rank them 5th fewest on a percentage basis behind Vermont, Maine, Iowa, and Oregon.  But all 13 were between 1928 and 1976, when Minnesota was the only state to vote the same way with Texas in every election.

Heh missed that one. You're right, that makes PA closest to DE ... voted the same since 1968. That makes more sense, since we used to own them.

This is the answer that would be given at each election:

1848(1): Texas's first US presidential election.  One of the most jumbled contests,  Texas joined ME, NH, OH, MI, IN, IL, WI, IA, MO, VA, SC, AL, MS, and AR voting for Zachary Taylor.

1852(2): A Democrat landslide, with TX joining the 14 listed above for a 2nd election.

1856(3): Fremont picks off some of the northern states, leaving Texas for a 3rd election with IN, IL, MO, VA, SC, AL, MS, and AR.

1860(4): Lincoln takes IN and IL; Douglas takes MO, and Bell takes VA, leaving Texas with SC, AL, MS, and AR for a 4th election.

1864, 1868: Did not vote.

1872(4): Many southern states still voting Republican, but Texas and Georgia vote for Greeley to stick together for the 4th election.

1876-1924(5 to 17) Texas and Georgia vote Democrat for the next 13 elections.

1928(14) The Hoover landslide cuts deep into the solid South.  Virginia, North Carolina and Texas all go Republican, after 13 previous elections (since 1876) in the Democrat column.  Georgia sticks with the Dems.

1932-1948(15-19) Texas continues along side North Carolina and Virginia in the Democrat column.

1952-1956 (20-21) Texas and Virginia like Ike, while North Carolina stays Democrat.

1960-1964 (9-10) LBJ helps JFK carry Texas, putting them in a group with IL, MN, NM, and NV, that had voted Democrat, except for the first Hoover election, and the two Eisenhower elections.  Virginia votes for Nixon in 1960.

1968(11) Texas is the only Southern state for HHH, and Nixon takes IL, MN, and NV.   Texas and Minnesota are together for an 11th time.

1972-1976 (12-13) Texas and Minnesota vote Nixon then Carter to stay together for the 13th election (1928-1976).  These two states had voted differently in every election before then and every election since then.

1980(Cool Minnesota votes for favorite son Mondale.  Texas votes for Reagan.  Texas joins New York and Pennsylvania, for the 8th time since 1952.

1984(9) Texas sticks with Reagan, New York and Pennsylvania.

1988(10) New York goes for Dukakis, leaving Texas and Pennsylvania at 10.

1992(6) Pennsylvania votes for Clinton.  Texas joins NC, SC, FL, AL, and MS, southern states not carried by Clinton.

1996(7) Florida goes for Clinton, leaving Texas with NC, SC, AL and MS.

2000(Cool Bush carries Texas, NC, SC, AL, and MS, who have voted together every election since 1972 (GOP all but 1976).

As for streaks, NJ and IL have voted the same 13 times in a row (soon to be 14), as well as NJ and NM.  Vermont and California have voted with Jersey the last 10 times.

I might look it up to be sure later, but for now I'll guess West Virginia.

OK, Minnesota has been in 36 elections.

WV became a state in 1864 and broke with Minnesota 1876-1892 1912, 1952, 1984 and 2000. That's 26 out of WV's 35 elections.

I did however see that Michigan broke with Minnesota only 1948 and 1976-1988. That's 31 out of 36 and probably the winner.

Since statehood/enfranchisement though, DC has voted with Minnesota every election since 1972, and Rhode Island and Hawaii have every one except 1984.

Alaska has voted with Virginia in every election

From Alaska's point of view--along with Virginia they have voted the same as Kansas, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota and Wyoming in every election since statehood.

Here's an interesting one:

NH has voted with Nevada since 1960.
