I have decided to pit a hypothetical election between a Democratic and a Republican opponent for the Presidency in 2012. As a result, the winner of this poll will become the Republican nominee. A similar poll will be held for the Democratic Party, where Barack Obama will face some challengers.

Romney, Huckabee, Guliani, and Palin seem to be the main competitors right now. I should have expected that, though I thought a Dark Horse would rise from among the canidates.

Fred Thompson, I guess.  I would bet money on him never running for office again, though.  Second choice would be Newt.

Fred and Newt have thoughtful philosophies regarding the role of government.  On the other hand, I'm not sure I could vote for mirage candidates such as Romney or Huckabee, even in a general election.

Palin and Jindal need to distinguish themselves.  Palin in particular has a lot to prove, but I'll keep an open mind on her qualifications.

And what's this, no candidate from the Ron Paul camp? Smiley

Ron Paul is getting a little old, and I assumed that he would be running as a Libertarian if he were to run in 2012.

Pawlenty is the least offensive one. If I was voting strategically, I'd probably vote for Palin.

After I kill Rudy Guliani, an obvious Rudy Giuliani wannabe, I will vote for Rudolph W. Giuliani.

It's sad that all of these candidates are so unappealing.

Romney: shameless flip-flopper who raised taxes and introduced a crappy healthcare law, comes off as a phony.

Huckabee: religious zealot who has no connection to conservative beliefs and creeps me out with his backhanded compliments.

Palin: too irresponsible

Rudy: too liberal

Thompson: Zzzzzzzzzzz...

Jindal: not ready

Pawlenty: Not competitive in his own state

Gingrich: too much baggage

Thune: who?

Bush: wrong last name

I'll vote for whoever I think can beat Obama.

Ideally, I'd want a candidate with Romney's private sector experience, Huckabee's appeal to the common man, Gingrich's intellect, Palin's looks, Bush's successful governorship, Jindal's youth, Rudy's toughness, Thompson's convictions, and Pawlenty's undamaged name. I guess that's too much to ask for.

Romney of course.  The rest are largely uninspiring.  We'll see how Jindal does and Rudy's not too bad, but the rest are either boring or not good at all.

If I was voting strategically, I would vote for Palin. If Obama tanked, but there was not a competitive Democratic primary in my state, I would consider voting for Romney.

It's a good sign for the Republican Party and the country, that much is sure!  But it certainly is a horrible thing for the ignorant and hateful wing of the Party.

Yes, the views of 19 people on an internet messageboard represent quite the meaningful sign for the Republican Party and the country.

It was more a mockery than a real post, but ok. Smiley
