The DCMA made copyright laws more draconion.
The Copyright Term Extension Act extended copyrights to 95 years. Disney didn't want Mickey Mouse to be in the public domain.

Both were passed passed by voice vote in October 1998.

Copyright serves a purpose, but copyright terms are way too long.  At a minimum we should go back to the minimum term allowed under the Berne Convention. (75 years for corporate works or life of author + 50 years for individual works)
