Nice!  You should have moved closer to the city. Wink

I wanted to stay in the general area I am now since that is where most my friends are.   Also since I was hit with layoffs earlier in the year and currently looking for a full time job, staying in the vicinity of where I am helps from a commuting perspective.  I'm still in Nassau County so its still very commutable to NYC (which is what I was previously doing) and also commutable to pretty much anywhere on LI, (with the exception of way out east) including the three major business hubs on Long Island (Garden City, Melville and Happauge.)  If I go further west on Long Island, traffic issues pretty much take Happauge out of the picture (or at least turn it into a headache) and further west in Nassau really doesn't make commuting to Jersey or Westchester any easier.

Any leads yet?  Thing that sucks is it's summer a most firms have people on vacation, etc.  In my field, accounting, things normally don't pickup until Fall for hiring because firms don't want to pay to have people idle for the summer.  Ever try the IRS Service Center in Brookhaven?  I know they must have some postings.

I moved a little over 2 miles away as a result most of my local reps remain the same.   the only one that changes is State Senator.  I was in the 8th S.D with Charles Fuschillo-R as my State Senator, it will now be Kemp Hannon-R of the 6th (which was close last year).

Still in NY-3 so have Peter King-R as my Congressman.  Remain in Nassau County and within the Town of Oyster bay so have Tom Suozzi-D as my County Exec and John Venditto-R as my Town Supervisor.   Dave Mejias-D remains my County Legislator (14th LD).  Joseph Saladino-R of the 12th  remains my State Assemblyman

Smash, how central is your location? It sounds less expensive than I would have expected. I share a 4-bedroom, 1 living-room, 1 kitchen, 2 bathrooms apartment right in the middle of Stockholm with 4 people and pay 3 500 SEK/month (so about $470). That includes internet, electricity, etc.

But I got it through connections. If you don't have connections or have waited for years or have the money to buy an apartment, you're basically stuck with the second-hand market here. Then I believe it tends to cost like twice that (so about $900) for studio apartments in central Stockholm.

I am in the suburbs, but not to far from the city, about 25 miles from Manhattan, 15 or so from Queens.

Ah, that explains it then. Of course, in Stockholm, rent is the same regardless of location. That's what a regulated market does to ya.
