Question:
If the 2012 general election for governor were held today, which one of the following would get your vote?

About this Poll
The Lee Newspapers poll was conducted Oct. 29-31 by Mason-Dixon Polling & Research Inc. of Washington, D.C., for the Billings Gazette, Montana Standard of Butte, Helena Independent Record, Missoulian and Ravalli Republic.

A total of 625 registered voters were interviewed statewide by both cellular and land-line telephone. All said they were likely to vote in the November election.

The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percentage points. The margin of error is higher for any subgroup such as a region or gender sampling.

Pollsters interviewed 321 women, or 51 percent of the sample, and 304 men or 49 percent.

They interviewed 231 people who identified themselves as Republicans or 37 percent of the sample; 207 people who said they were Democrats or 33 percent of the sample; and 187 people, or 30 percent, who called themselves independents.

Those interviewed were randomly selected from a phone-matched Montana voter registration list that included both land-line and cellphone numbers. Quotas were assigned to reflect voter turnout by county.
