Introduction

Washington is a state located in the Pacific Northwest region of the United States. Admitted into the Union in 1889, Washington was the 42nd state to join. It is bordered by Oregon to the south, Idaho to the west, and British Columbia to the north. Its capital is Olympia and its largest city is Seattle. Washington is a moderate and libertarian-leaning state that generally favors the Democratic Party over the Republican Party.
