Here are the results when I take the suggestion of combining French and French Canadian and using the more updated (2010) numbers that were so awesomely linked above!  I also used Census regions this time to more easily get the regional numbers as a whole.  Also, remember that this is percent of Whites.

Cool map.  I guess there's no easy way to tease out Spanish from "Hispanic", and so people whose primary European ancestry is from Spain are largely excluded from the list?  I mean, if the idea is to see in what European countries were the ancestors of people currently living in US state X, then, in principle, no reason to put Spain in a special category.....except that "Hispanic"/"Latino" is usually a mix of Spanish, Native American, and other things, so not sure how to disentangle those to just get the European part.

(As I'm sure you are well aware Mexico did a better job than the US in quickly processing the paperwork for those fleeing for their lives in the '30s)....

That's interesting. While U.S. policy was hampered by anti-Semitism, the U.S. Holocaust Museum doesn't report favorably on Mexico. It accepted fewer than 2,000 Jewish refugees compared to 95,000 in the U.S.
