Well the new Charlotte mayor, Anthony Foxx is certainly a rising Democratic star, but I don't think we'll be seeing him at the national or federal level for a while.

For the Democrats, I'd say Mark Warner, Kirsten Gillibrand or Martin O'Malley would be good choices.

The the Republicans, Thune obviously comes to mind first. Rubio would be a good choice considering the RNC location. My third pick would be Brian Sandoval.
