is he sympathetic enough to the mainstream press that the govt feels the need to trade a huge arms dealer for?  Probably not.

There should be a rule, if you're in a known sh**t country, the US owes you nothing if you get picked up by them for cause or not.  Wait, there is a rule?  and we bend it when the publicity is high?  oh, well that's convenient isn't it?  It's like those "save the animals" groups that only spends money on "cute" animals.

Absolutely no good reason for an American servicemember stationed in South Korea to travel of his own volition to Russia.

In general I agree that people who play stupid games can keep their stupid prizes, but in the case of a servicemember, America arguably owes them a second chance.

If Griner got a bailout this person most certainly should too (though hopefully for a lesser price than a known arms dealer).

Can't imagine why a U.S. soldier would be detained in Russia in the year 2024.

What the hell was he thinking?!

Maybe he believed all the crap by Greenwald, Carlson, and Snowden that Russia is a pro-capitalist, free-speech, anti-woke utopia compared to the decadent United States.

Apparently, he was arrested for "stealing" from his Russian girlfriend.

If true, what an idiot!

My only question to this is, how? And from Korea? That border is 5 miles tops, and let's just say there's a reason you never hear of North Korean defectors from that way.

I highly doubt he came from NK, lol. Probably went by boat or something.

Yeah very odd. Also, he was in Vladivostok not even Moscow.

NK waters and airspace are real treacherous too though.

He could easily have flown via China on his personal passport. Getting a visa for Russia can be terrible, though.

It doesn't need to be complicated - he was probably bored in Korea and met some Russian girl which led to his lower half doing the "thinking" for him.
