Second Assembly of the A.C.L.O

Introductions

Good Afternoon to all the attendees on this fine day that we hold our second National Assembly of the Atlasian Coalition for Labor Occupations. We will be discussing how we will shakeup our organization in order to best respond to the needs of the working class, as well as recent events in Atlasia.

We will be deciding how to best structure our organization by voting on the the following changes to our guidelines, marked in red. These changes range from superficial grammatical changes to wholesale, radical changes to the core of the union. I urge everyone to read it carefully before submitting your ballot. On another note, know that there will be an acceptance of changes by the members here; to change anything, just submit a change like you do on any bill in Atlasia. With that, I think everything else is straightforward.

Next thing on the agenda, the status of Atlasian worker rights. Recent times have been often mixed or unclear where Atlasia is heading on this issue. While we’ve seen major wins on the recognition of May1st as the true day of laborers and a sweeping overhaul in Lincoln, other regions have stagnated on this issue. Furthermore, the recently passed Woke Workers Act is possibly going to be a major issue going forward as a sneaky introduction of Right-To-Work. In order to best combat these pitfalls, we must be quick in ensuring our rights are upheld. I am issuing a general strike to be held under the condition that the true extent of the bill is true, approved of democratically by this National Assembly’s composition of members. Friends, while I can be sure that some of you are unprepared and worried about a blowback from a strike, rest assured that our numbers and unity in this act will insulate us from any clear threat. In that case, at 1:30 PM (CT), I hereby call that voting procedure is open.

General Ballot.

This election will last for exactly 72 hours beginning at 1:30 PM (Central Daylight Time) on Wednesday, June 12 and ending at 1:30 PM (Central Daylight Time) on Tuesday, June 15. All votes cast outside of this period will be counted invalid.

Ballot instructions
1. Please vote yes, no or abstain on the question of whether the A.C.L.O Objective’s Framework should be ratified. Abstentions do not affect the final outcome. A successful vote for ratification will result in the immediate ratification of the amendment upon certification.

2. You are permitted, but not advised, to edit your ballot within 20 minutes of posting it in this thread. Editing your ballot more than 20 minutes after posting it in this voting booth will cause it to be counted invalid.

3. Please check over your ballot thoroughly before you click "Post". You have no excuse for casting a ballot which contains errors or does not accurately reflect your preferences. Failure to correct errors in your ballot may result in its disqualification.

4. It is prohibited against the A.C.L.O guidelines to a) delete your ballot after the voting period is closed and before the results are certified or delete your ballot after the 20 minute edit period and revote and/or b) intimidate or attempt to place undue pressure on a voter to delete their ballot as outlined in part a or invalidate their ballot.

5. Please note multiple posts within the voting booth (with the exception of the original ballot post posted by the election administrator) are prohibited and will result in your ballot being invalid

Eligibility
You are eligible to vote in this election if you (a) are present within Atlasia; (b) have not had your voting rights stripped as the result of inactivity or expulsion; (c) and (e) have made 10 posts in the last 8 weeks (posts only count if made before the start of this election).

A.C.L.O Endorsements for June 9-15, 2019

We the A.C.L.O endorse the following candidates for higher office.

National
June Presidential Election:

Adam Griffin/Jimmy7812
Grading: A
The Labor party ticket is the currently safest bet for the improvement of working rights in Atlasia. With the most detailed economic and labor rights plan, I see only positives in the ticket. Both politicians have worked to improve Atlasia in the goals of this organization.

Kingpolen/Sprouts Farmers Market
Grading: N/A
Running on a single issue, this ticket has yet to extrapolate where they stand on anything else.

Young Texan/Vern
Grading: F
The Federalist ticket is running on a platform of austerity and regulations rollbacks. Both politicians have worked tirelessly for the benefit of their wealthy donors in pushing back on the people. There isn’t anything more to say other than that for this ticket.

Lincoln
Gubernatorial Endorsement:Peanut
Grading: A+
This individual has got a good history of being with the people, hasn’t maliciously attacked unions, and isn’t a conservative. The fact of the matter is that Lincoln has drastically improved under her tenure compared to other regions, and a lack of a serious challenger proves that is so.

The South
Gubernatorial Endorsement: Anybody but Young Texan

Fremont
N/A

A.C.L.O Legislative Grading

National
HB 18-33: End Corporate Bidding Act
Grading: B-
Corporate Bidding is an appalling normality of doing business with all sections of government in Atlasia, putting corporations first instead of the people. While the legislation recognizes and tries to mitigate such actions, it doesn’t provide enough of a punishment to force multinationals to back off before conducting the legal bribe.

HB 18-12: Co-determination Act of 2019
Grading: A+
For too long, the workers of Atlasia were given no voice to their concerns in the workplace. Our opinions were considered worthless to the profit-seeking upper management. Now, we have the chance to have a real turnaround into the makeup of Atlasian working rights. This bill allows for a start to workplace democracy, and thus I congratulate the sponsors for putting this to the frontlines in its current form.

SB: Worker Retention and Firing Act
Grading: B-
The bill provides a start to the protection of the workers when terminated from employment. Specifically, by providing leeway into what is grounds for termination and for providing compensation to workers afterward. What is missing is a lack of apparatus to fully judge the termination, giving the employers abilities to lie for a better settlement, and a lack of benefits given to resigning workers of any tenure. More detail would be advised before passing into voting procedure.

SB series: Dumb Regulations Repeal Acts
Grading: F-
Time and time again, this series of senate bills has threatened common sense regulations with its malicious euphemism of a “dumb” law. I would gladly point out every piece of anti-worker drivel it is drenched in, but I just don’t have the time.

Lincoln
N/A

The South
N/A

Fremont
FT 12-06: Fremont Farm Bill of 2019
Grading: Pending final edition
On a glance, the bill offers sweeping protection of workers’ rights. It prohibits the abuse of child workers and its language implicitly protects migrant workers. What is the uncertainty is that the bill is still being adjusted, in part due to language concerning the reintroduction of the chemical product DDT. The danger of DDT on workers in subpar and often unsafe farms in the currently lightly enforced regulatory scene is unnerving. The A.C.L.O. would like to see a finished draft heeding these concerns before moving into a final vote.

A.C.L.O Notice of June 13, 2019

With two more days of the current National Assembly, we’ve definitely grown as an organization. I’m happy to see the makeup of the Union after the vote, even though we still have many vacancies that are still open for change. A point of positivity is the increase of members across Atlasia we’ve had prior to this national meeting. Even better, we’ve seen a 100% yes vote on our first industrial action in the face of an onslaught of our rights.

On an other note, I do apologize to the members who received a wrong ballot in the initial vote due to a technical error. That is why I will amend the rules for the early voters to change their ballots before the end of the voting procedure. Leaving it blank will not spoil the ballot, and the filing of a new one will just count the most recent one.

A.C.L.O Endorsements for June 9-15, 2019

Lincoln
Gubernatorial Endorsement:Peebs
Grading: A+

Uh, you must have confused her with someone else? (probably incumbent governor Peanut).

Peebs is not running for any offices at the moment to my knowledge. She isn't even a citizen of Lincoln, living instead in the South.

The current candidates for Lincoln governor are Peanut (Labor) and SNJC (Independent Federalist).

Also, I accidentally screwed up my ballot Sad

For the record: Aye on the proposed platform changes, Abstain on the call to action.

While I do care about structure, I’ll have to cut the election short due to expediency of the results and the fact that we’ve had greater than 100% turnout.

Results:

Chair: PSOL by a unanimous decision

Press Secretary: tack50 unanimously

ICO:1 politicalmasta73 —7 NOTA
politicalmasta73 is hereby I.C.O. head by interim designation

United Farmworkers: 1 Jimmy7812- 7 NOTA
Scott is hereby designated as the interim union boss of United Farmworkers

Foodstuffs Union: 1 Bagel23- 7 NOTA
Bagel23 is hereby designated as interim head

W.T.A: 1 Cecil Roberts — 7 NOTA
Cecil Roberts is hereby designated as interim head

A.S.T. : JGibson 1 — 7 NOTA
JGibson is hereby designated as interim head

C.C.C.E. : Sestak 1 — 7 NOTA

M.R.C.A: 1 Richard Ojeda
Interim head is Richard Ojeda

U.S.A.G.U.A: No votes cast
Led by the chair

R.W.P.: 1 Greg Stumbo — 7 NOTA
Greg Stumbo is interim leader

M.E.P.O.: Rawlings 1 — 7 NOtA
Rawlings

Decision to strike: 8-1 yes

Decision to adopt new guidelines: unanimous

1 vote was invalid due to failure for delegate to appropriately register. That voter is just hereby admitted as a member.

Great job folks. During this time the president has informally clarified that unionization is unaccounted for in the passed legislation. I do hereby suggest we wait it out for a more formal declaration from the sponsors of the law before casting aside our strike.

My apologies for the confusion.

In other news, apparently the laws are void in the Lincoln region due to past statutes, per GM Mr. Reactionary. There is still no notice of the other two regions, so be on your toes for until at least Monday . Even so, I’m still counting this as a win by showing the potential sway of the union is something to not brush aside. Great job everyone!

After numerous talks and clarification with the GM, I can sufficiently say that our rights won’t be affected by this measure. Per our referendum, I am hereby calling off the strike for Monday. I’d say we demonstrated our abilities as an organization through this venture, and we should anticipate further challenges and opportunities in our long struggle.

In other news, now that we’ve finished with the elections, I will remind all the voted in officeholders to take their position seriously and put in the work. If there is anything affecting your role in Atlasia, it is your responsibility to act in favor of your fellow workers. That goes for the upper echelons as well, including the duties subscribed to the Chair and Press Secretary positions.

Greetings to all of my fellow union members and Chair PSOL. Let me just reiterate that it is an absolute honor to be speaking to all of you today as the interim leader of the Foodstuff Union. I am here today to entreat the broader organization to stand with us in complete and firm opposition to S.19.2-18: Employees Must Be Legal Residents Act. This is a copycat bill of the one that failed in the Atlasian house just a few days ago, thanks in large part to our valiant stand against it. I humbly ask each and every one of you today to stand with so many undocumented individuals in the Southern region who work side by side with documented foodstuffers, as friends, brothers, spouses, uncles, mothers, and so many more valuable connections, and are integral parts of our communities that are worthy of work and a practical life in this country through their honest toil. Let us make this clear straight out of the gate, this is a sick and lie filled bill with many serpent heads. They seek to vilify workers to keep everyone down and below, and their buddies in the top 0.1% with ever increasing profits, a classic scheme of the far right wing elites. The impotent Atlasian far right has and will continue to spectacularly fail in making meaningful change on the borders, and instead seeks to wreck further hell onto undocumented immigrants, making their working conditions even worse, by taking away what should be a legal right to work. If successful, our fellow workers will be exploited even further, all to make those at the top more money. We cannot let their race baiting and dog whistling catch on any further, for it is as I have said many times already, but it has to keep being emphasized, the oldest trick in the book, to try and divide us by hue of skin, which is a big part of what it is all about at the end of the day for these elites. If passed, I would strongly suggest striking, because this is life and death for many of our brothers and sisters across borders, and a true battle worth fighting tooth and claw for.

Please stand with the workers of Atlasia, say NO to S.19.2-18: Employees Must Be Legal Residents Act.

With profound gratitude,

The ACLO supports someone who said this of the federal version:

If I'm reelected to the House, I plan to reintroduce the Your Employees Must Be Legal Residents Act. Given your answers in the debate, if in some hopefully likely event we have competent legislators who will support this bill next Congress, would this be a measure you would support and sign into law?

In my view, your bill doesn't go far enough. Why focus on federal contractors when we can address the ongoing situation with every employer breaking the law in Atlasia?

Granted, it might be more punitive than my approach for a small segment of contractors and businesses - especially those with large contracts relative to the number of people they employ - but I'm also curious about the figures regarding this specific problem. I would imagine the rate of undocumented employment among businesses that receive federal contracts is considerably smaller than among businesses at-large.

This bill goes after big businesses that exploit undocumented immigrants, often paying them significantly less than what they would pay someone who has a legal right to be here.

Surely an organization that stands for worker's rights would want to make sure that big businesses are following the law.

This is the obvious dilemma of electoralism in Atlasia, where you have to go for the greater lesser evil. The organization’s endorsements does not mean that all positions held by a candidate are necessarily endorsed by the A.C.L.O.

On the comments made by the former president, the guidelines clearly clashes and we’ll be ready to act on the best for the Atlasian worker when the time arrives.

Well of course, if such an act was introduced the specifics would definitely be considered by the union, but with all due respect chamber member, this ain't it. The main shabang of this doohickey is that employees must be documented, m'kay? When we got such a big meat platter on the table, any sides, no matter how intriguing, are really overshadowed by the big char product if you get what I'm jiving at. And this is something that the Foodstuff Union will not stand for, and will endeavor to unite the masses around this important cause of opposing S.19.2-18: Employees Must Be Legal Residents Act.

As head of the I.C.O, we are coming out strongly against the representatives' bigoted bill which has no economic basis for its existence. It directly contradicts the guidelines set up for this union and serves little to no purpose in reality, however fair it might seem to the untrained eye. While it may seem like one group of people is often responsible for the issues we face as workers (stagnant wages, layoffs, benefit cuts), the reality is the people who propose bills like this are the same ones who raise our taxes, take away our healthcare, and diminish our collective bargaining abilities. They do this because they know the only way they can win is by using fear to divide us, to create an us versus them mentality. The A.C.L.O is far too strong however to fall victim to these attacks, because our union knows better than that.

Please provide a single situation in which I proposed raising taxes on working class people. I was a cosponsor of the Reforming and Regionalizing Public Healthcare Act of 2017 in the House. I signed the POWER Act during my time as President.

I suggest not commenting on something you know nothing about. It's not wise to spread lies.

Oh for old cahokia's sake, look no further than this act. A tax is not just an official raise by direct law on a group of people, labor groups know this all too well. Barring undocumented individuals from working is an indirect tax on working families and unions, depriving everybody of opportunity. The atlasian right prefers taxing the people through more scheming methods than a straight up tax raise.

The top of the presidential ticket for the Atlasian left wants to take it farther than I did with companies that hire illegal immigrants. Where is your outrage over that?

Believe me chamber member, I am outraged about it, in fact it is a worse grievance than this. I had known of some of these positions in the past, which is why I stayed and am staying loyal, and have personally endorsed and am voting for YT/Vern for P/VP of Atlasia.

Adding on to the points made by the honorable Bagel23, not only is this bill a prime example, but also I believe you misunderstood what I was saying. I was not necessarily speaking about you, but rather the type of people who would back this bill would also back said policies, because this bill lends itself to that toxic ideology of divide and conquer. Otherwise there is no way the ideology of people like you could win in an election.

I oppose the Employees Must Be Legal Residents Act in its current form. As someone who lives in a farming area and close to many others in my state, I know how important these workers can be. I'd would rather Congress focus on stopping businesses/corporations who underpay illegal workers or make them work in bad conditions ect.

You're running with someone who wants to do more than this bill would do to stop employers from hiring undocumented immigrants.

I fear I have to side with the Congresswoman here. The Employees Must Be Legal Act is overall a positive bill.

We should encourage businesses to hire legal inmigrants who get all the rights of labour in this country, not illegal inmigrants who can easily be exploited by their bosses.

I have always been of the opinion that we must have a tough line against illegal inmigration, but to compensate we need to loosen inmigration restrictions and allow those same inmigrants to come in legally. To that effect I also echo Jimmy's concerns even if I would personally vote differently.

Finally to clarify just in case, the above is a statment I am doing as a private citizen and not endorsed or authorized by the ACLO.
