Insane turnout for a special election.

That was the election day vote. D+1.

Trump is more unpopular in CT, though.

And yeah, Belcher will win.

That particular Kentucky House district was ruthlessly gerrymandered by the Democrat party. So it was supposed to be a tough district. By rallying the people the GOP was able to break the vicious gerrymander and win a majority in the chamber.

lol

Rallying for a pedophile.

The special election for MO SD 17 has been scheduled for June 5.

SD 17 covers suburban Northern Kansas City with a particularly high density of union workers. It was represented by moderate GOP state senate Ryan Silvey until his appointment to the Public Service Commission on the first day of the legislative session this year (in order to get him out of Greitens' way, whom he had often thwarted from the floor of the Senate). Silvey won in a squeaker in 2012 (while winning comfortably in 2016)  and enjoyed considerable union support due to his pro labor voting behavior.

Here is a map I whipped together of SD 17 showing Jason Kander's performace in 2016, when he won by roughly 55-45:

The presidential figures stand at 49-45 for Trump in 2016 and 51-47 for Romney in 2012. Democrats swept all statewide offices here in 2012 and Kander and Koster both won here in 2016.

Johnson will get another chance at her husband's seat unless she is defeated in the Republican primary. Fortunately, one Thomas Huff, the owner and operator of Huff's Used Cars, has filed for the GOP nod. The winner will take on Belcher in November.

Going into a an election on terrain like Democrats did tonight and coming away with 2 out of 3 seats should scare the hell out of the GOP.

Two specials tonight!

OK-51 (8 ET): https://www.ok.gov/elections/support/ok_results_seb.html
Massachusetts State Senate Third Essex District (8 ET): Good luck searching Smiley

IIRC, the Democrat is unopposed in the MA race, so who cares.

Why bother even holding an election if there's only one name on the ballot?

Democracy?

Are the straight ticket votes counted separately
Pretty sure they are not.

This is an insanely embarrassing result for the GOP.

The final margin is likely going to be about the size of the Republican's margin in the Optimist Park Precinct, which was one of the key benchmark precincts in the Jones-Moore race. The Republican's 60-40 victory in Optimist Park is a little strange to say the least.

The Republican candidate for this seat, Rex Reynolds, is a long time public official in Huntsville, having been both police chief and public administrator, and is incredibly active in multiple organizations in his community. The small business owner raised almost $89,000 in this race compared to Jones' $2000, and spent over $40,000 of it. He raised a ton of many and spent it on a capable campaign laser focused on an important local issue, protecting municipal employee pensions. He honestly has a more impressive resume than most candidates for State House in states with part time legislatures like Alabama, and likely had high name recognition among voters in this special election.

And yet, he barely won a seat that Trump won by over 20 points.
