Even if true, is it smart to criticize our major ally in the region?

This is honestly the first thing that's made me worry about if he's all right.

Criticizing the immigration policies of other countries isn’t exactly the role of the president IMO.

He should have said "insular" instead of "xenophobic". It would have sent the same message without involving the negative weight using the term xenophobic carries.

He's right though.

Edit: Though it's odd he included Russia. Yes it has demographic problems similar to China and Japan. But it actually takes in immigrants, almost all from Central Asia.

Even if it's true (I'm not familiar enough with Japanese immigration policy to have an informed opinion), Japan is a crucial eastern ally and the last thing we need is to alienate any more of them.

The Japanese reaction to his killing is the weirdest thing, I didn’t expect one of the most popular former Japanese PMs being murdered and people looking at the killer and saying “he do have a good point”.

Isn’t the UK in a recession despite having more Indians than Welsh people at this point?

I've been to Japan and was treated very well. In my experience they are not a xenophobic country. Meanwhile the US is...well, the US.

To be fair, it's easier for America to be a "nation of immigrants" because this isn't our land to begin with. Whats weirder is how Europe takes in so many immigrants.

Thr Hill article includes India but it was taken out from the tweet. Another strange thing.

Right, India, where the clear problem is underpopulation and which should be countered with US immigration rates. Sorry, but the remarks are pretty ridiculous, whatever way you look at it.

Just building off your comment to say that Britain has less standing to be resistant to immigration than does Japan which defines itself as an ethno state

Japan should formally apologize for Nanking and Unit 731 and boot the LDP from office.

The UK seems to be barely getting out but Canada is in a per capita recession. In reality the US is just deficit spending by an insane amount.

He isn't wrong. Here is the exact quote

“You know, one of the reasons our economy is growing is because of you and many others. Why? Because we welcome immigrants,” Biden told Asian American and Pacific Islander donors Wednesday. “The reason - think about it - why is China stalling so bad economically? Why is Japan having trouble? Why is Russia, why is anyone? Because they’re xenophobic, they don’t want immigrants.”

President Biden is known for being the most honest when speaking to donors, who tend to appreciate his insight. I don't consider this a "swipe" more of a critique.

The nations of East Asia are struggling because of lower birthrates below replacement levels. Immigration would help, although I'm not an expert on Asian economies and I don't know if more immigration would be immediate.

There are several factors why the US has so far avoided post COVID recessions. I think its a  combination of a big 2021 stimulus and the promise of future free money from BIF and IRA bills. But mostly an addiction to consumer spending.

I'm not sure deficit spending is why, since that was a problem before COVID. From my understanding the deficit has grown from an increase in entitlement spending. And less taxes collected from capital gains compared to 2022

https://www.nytimes.com/2023/10/20/business/treasury-report-shows-1-7-trillion-deficit.html

But also the US never fully shut down during COVID compared to other nations

Does the history of the Japanese Empire not invalidate Japan’s right to be ethnically homogenous?

Also lol at the idea that Russia doesn't want immigrants. Vladimir Putin is one of the most liberal leaders in the entire world when it comes to immigration. Probably only 2nd to Justin Trudeau.

He mostly cracked down on the anti Tajik sentiments after the terrorist attacks and one of the main reason that Russian opposition group in Ukraine hates him is because he takes in so many immigrants.
Central Asia is to Russia as what Latin America is to the USA except Putin allows them in through legal channels far more than America.

Russia's economic problems is definitely not due to a lack of immigration although there is some issue with out migration.

Yeah, I was going to say... not only does he commit diplomatic faux pas, he doesn't even know the facts.
