Could California billionaire hedge fund manager and progressive activist Tom Steyer win the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination and the presidency?

Is Steyer too "neoliberal", "rich"?

Not a good bet.

agreed. I don't think he'll run anyway, but Steyer wouldn't translate in general. More importantly I don't think he has a good lane in the primary.

I don't entirely disagree, but he is certainly doing a good job getting his name out there on social media. I keep seeing his tweets about his impeachment campaign promoted on my feed, with tens of thousands of likes.

After Trump, I would hope that the Democrats realize how stupid it is to nominate someone with zero political or military experience.

Now I can't help but get pissed off whenever somebody suggests he run. I don't mind his impeachment efforts but Democrats running a billionaire is the exact OPPOSITE of what we should do in order to unite the Democrat party and beat Trump. People only support him for his Impeach Trump PAC.

I could see him running, he’s got the money to do so and would be better than the other billionaires mooted. But I think the best he’d do is drop out by Super Tuesday after a lot of 4th, 5th and lower finishes.

Let’s run an extortionist hedge fund manager for President, that’ll win us the White House!

Progressives will NEVER vote for billionaire, no matter receptive to their policies he or she is. That is the downfall of a Steyer/Oprah/Iger run.

He will probably run. He will definitely lose. He has no charisma.

Oprah is the only billionaire Democrat with no political experience who can run and win.

I would vote for Steyer in the general, but I hope I don't have to.

Iger actually isn't a billionaire, so I guess he's OK.  Tongue

Based on Steyer's latest moves, it looks like he's now actually the most likely of the "rich people with no political experience" to actually jump into the 2020 presidential race.  After him, I guess the next most likely is Cuban, followed by Winfrey.  Though Winfrey is more likely than Cuban to run for the nomination of one of the two major parties, since Cuban apparently might go 3rd party / Indie.
